Scam protection call?

Sorry if this has been mentioned before I do apologise. My dad got a call from a number 008001218143. Something to do with protection for boxes? Not sure how genuine it is or the company's name (my dad didn't have a clue and was foolish enough to give his bank details over the phone)

Just copy and paste the number into Google then read the replies by other people.
Regards

Sky seem to sell on your details and most customers seem to end up getting a call after about a year from a warranty company.

They are probably overcharging him, and I'm not sure how well the warranty would stand up if he actually needed to claim - but it's unlikely it's a 'scam' in the conventional sense.

Hm. From what I read on google they seem persistent in calling sometimes (basically could call a few times in a day to they get some sort of answer) hence my suspicions.

It really isn't necessary to have any sort of warranty for a Sky box. If they break during the first year then Sky have to replace it anyway. If it breaks after about 4 years then you've had a good run and it's time to replace it.

Anything in between and just tell Sky that you're cancelling....they'll soon be round with another box free of charge!

Just to bring this to (hopefully) to an end. Noticed the direct debit had went on the old man's bank this morning. I deleted it and found a number which if you call then they remove your phone details from their database so we will see. Should be the end of it now. Too dodgy IMO.
