David vs Goliath (merged)

Hi,

Does anybody know what time the Haye - Valuev fight will start on Saturday night?

I know SKY are saying the event starts at 8pm but there will be undercard fights first I'm guessing. I was wanting to see if I could watch it online rather then fork out more money to SKY.

OK, thanks dids, just found that by looking at a German TV guide.
Typical that they get it free to air but we have to pay. Thank the lord for the internet.

It is on ARD which is the German equivalent of BBC. Sadly though, the terrestrial channels here didnt bid enough for it.

Haye expects it to start just after 10 according to a quote today.

Think i may splash out and get it.

It would be so funny if Haye wins. I have doubts, just cos of the sheer size of what he is up against, but you never know!

Haye is being very specific about knocking Valuev out (nothing new in the boxing game i know) which is obviously a big ask for anyone. What if Haye ignored head punches and just attacked the body? Would that be a way to topple the giant?

Its the ONLY way to beat him.

Haye is a big puncher, but Valuez is so much beiiger than him he will see the shots coming at his head, easier to protect.

He will struggle to block body shots though, will be hard for him to get into shape quick enough to block the shots to the body.

I am going for late Haye KO or points win.

Or if Valuez can keep Haye at bay and on the outside Valuez on points.

Should be a great fight though

It certainly worked for Rocky against Ivan Drago

Valuev isnt the KO machine his size would let you believe. Since he has stepped up to world level his KO percentage is low, I think im right in saying he hasnt had a stoppage win in four or five fights?
If Haye can get in and out and not let Valuev bully him with the weight advantage I can see Haye stopping him late on.

I think Haye will win, but there's some Value on Valuev (I'm hilarious) if anyone fancies a daft tenner on something. Not entirely out of the realms of possibility; Valuev home town, never been knocked down, big size difference, and although he's limited, he knows what he does and he does it effectively.

I am surprised so many people think Haye is going to win.

This reaks of Hatton vs Mayweather and Pacquiao. We have to be realistic, he's up against it and it's unlikely......but not impossible.

It's a tough one to call. As far as I know Valuev has never been knocked down, but doesn't exactly have a great knockout punch himself. However, he hasn't exactly fought the best of the best. Still, it's safe to say that he has a decent chin, and as Haye is moving up a weight, that might mean that his power isn't quite as apparent as it appears to be at cruiserweight. Valuev looks very slow and amateurish.

Haye isn't used to going the distance and in his fight against Carl Thompson many moons ago, he tired himself out and was there for the taking. The betting odds seem to point towards a 12 rounder, with Haye unable to knock out Valuev, and Valuev not having the knockout punch to put Haye away.

Not like that at all. Mayweather and Pacman were the 2 best fighters in the world. Valuev is a joke. His big but so so slow. He was lucky v a 46 year old Holyfield. With speed and punching power Haye should win this.

Yes, he was absolutely dire against Holyfield. Valuev is a master at getting decisions in fights he loses though, so I worry that unless Haye gets a knock out, they will find a way to keep the belt with Valuev.

I recall when Lloyd Honeyghan fought Don Curry (who unlike Valuev was an oustanding boxer, actually rated the best pound for pound in the world before this fight). A BBC radio expert said that because Honeyghan would be in the ring he technically had a chance to win - but that was it.

Guess what.

Just because Valuez is big doesnt mean he is unstopable.

Try punching the couch twice.

Once punching up then once punching down.

How did you go??

Its easier to punch up with power than down. That is one of the reasons why Haye can win.

If he can get near Valuez he will dominate because of his speed.

It will be an interesting fight, but I expect Haye to win by late KO or wide points.

Well, I guess I am just saying that people are getting overconfident, the same as many did with Hatton. Yeah sure he can win, but it's not a foregone conclusion.

Haye has never fought anyone this big before, and I bet Valuev punches harder than anyone Haye has fought before.

It's not all going to be one-way traffic.

Valuev is a big old slow lump even Holyfield looked like lightening against him and got robbed by the judges!

Which is the same problem Haye has i.e. getting a decision in Germany it's gonna be difficult get to a KO but you fancy it's his best bet at getting a win as if it goes to the judges anything can happen.

My couch isn't however 9 inches above my head.

Haye will simply have to win or he is going to look like the biggest fool ever to step into the ring.

Hardly!

Haye is a far better boxer but at the end of the day Valuev is so huge that anything could happen.
