Some films just actively appal you. So many are merely boring, lacklustre, or otherwise inoffensively ineffective.
But Couples Retreat goes all out to offend your cinematic sensibilities. You'll have seen bad films, but rarely do they come as bad as this. The sad thing is that I sat through it, full well in the knowledge that the critical reception (http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/couplesretreat) constituted a virtual lynch mob. But I like to store faith in filmmakers/actors who've rewarded me before, and so it was that I went to the cinema to se this aberration. Vaughn was a hit in Dodgeball, Favreau had just come off of Iron Man, and they both teamed up to good effect in Swingers. At worst, I expected a forgettable affair. Instead, I got a most memorably awful movie that as an experience is only slightly preferable to watching a looping video of Heather Mills defending her desire for £125m. of Paul Mcartney's money. |

Ah, I see.
Thanks for the review - is a shame I was hoping it might be funny! As you say, the actors have had some good films so it loked promising. I must admit, the reviews I've read have been bad! I'll probably give it a miss then! |

Well I really enjoyed it. I would recommend it as a good feel good film. The acting is fine and the characters are likeable. So I would say ignore the critics and give it a go.

I liked it too, if you don't expect too much from it its a good film, some very funny moments, the 2nd half does drag a little though!

I wouldn't be rushing to see it again. It was rather boring if I'm being honest. Some of the "comedy" was painful as you could tell that it had been scripted to be funny but it just fell flat.

what a lazy film , it was like an episode of The Love Boat
I think the cast just treated it as a holiday . |

I liked it too. It's not overly funny, but has a decent cast. I'd say it's part Wedding crashers (Vaughn), part Forgetting Sarah Marshall. (Bell)
The desert island 'escapism' was nice too... Ignore the critics. It's alright if you like that sort of thing. |
