Connecting Wii and Xbox to your TV

Hope someone can help here....we have an X-Box connected to our TV via the component cable. We are going to be getting a Wii for xmas as well , but this also seems to connect via the same component connection. Does anyone know if you can get some kind of AV splitter or adapter?

We only have one AV/component connection on our TV, but several scart leads available.

Thanks.

Both consoles come with a scart block that you can plug the component plugs into

Ahh, thanks. I knew the Xbox had one of those, but I can't find it! Good to know that Wii has one too

Some TVs have one component connection but may also have the Red/Yellow/White.

You can use the Red/Yellow/White connection for the Wii.

only problem is they will not be RGB if you don't have multiple free RGB wired scart sockets.

Not sure about that. I would need to find the TV manual which is about as lost as eveything else after our recent house move!. The TV is a recent panasonic Viera (sp) if that helps, and it has two Scart sockets available - non are in use, as I use HDMI.

Can you not use HDMI for the Xbox, or is it an old one with no HDMI port?

If I had to choose between which console out of a 360 and Wii would connect via component (red/green/blue RCA phonos) and which would connect via composite (yellow RCA phono, can be plugged into a SCART adaptor plug too), I would use component for the 360 & composite for the Wii. The 360 is HD, the Wii is not. I wouldn't want to sacrifice the 360's picture quality by hooking it up using composite video (the lowest of the low).

An alternative, assuming your TV has a VGA/PC port, would be to use VGA for the 360 & component for the Wii. You'd need a VGA lead for the 360, of course.

The *composite* video plug (yellow) plugs into the SCART adaptor, along with the left & right audio (white & red).

The *component* video plugs (red, green, & blue) do not plug into the SCART adaptor.

You can get 3 in 1 YPbPr component switch boxes off ebay for around £12-£15.
I got one when I had Wii and DVD player connected to my old tv.

I assumed he meant xbox original - could well mean 360.

I would recommend using HDMI for the 360 and Component for the Wii, if this is a HDTV then trust me, the Wii needs all the help it can get, having it at least on EDTV will make it look decent.

I thought that was more likely than an original Xbox, as the only way to connect an original Xbox via component is to mod it & make it think it's American, plus you then need the component cable, which was never sold over here (although it can be bought on ebay).

No I am sure you are right. I just associate xbox 1 with being hooked up to the TV via scart as my old brick still acts as my primary media server.
