Someone at Royal Mail stole my parcel!
I ordered a designer handbag from the company I work for that's worth £140 three weeks ago and I still haven't received it. I phoned head office and they said the item was delivered by Royal Mail recorded delivery on the 19th October, there was no address and the signature was an illegible scrawl.
I've asked all my neighbours and they said they haven't received any parcels for me, I've lived next door to them for years and they've had parcels for me before so I believe them. Does anyone know if Royal Mail will give me my money back? I've spoken to people at the Head Office of the company I work for and they said they're not sure what's going to happen now and they'll get in touch with me when they find out from Royal Mail. Has this ever happened to anyone before? I'm so angry right now

Someone at Digital Spy has stolen your post!
Hopefully this should get it back! Edit - it worked! Did you pay by Credit Card? If so, call them, and they should refund you or sort it out for you. |

The guy I spoke to at head office said it was strange because there was no address saying where it had been delivered to and there was no printed name, just a scrawl. |

I got a delevery from parcel force, they guy handed me over the parcel and then signed for it himself. I didnt say anything at the time as it hadnt clicked what he had done, I had been nightshift and he woke me up, so I was still half asleep lol.
It was only afterwards I thoght about it, he could leave the parcel anywhere, sign for it and I have no comeback as it has been signed as delevered. How could you prove the item hadnt arrived when it was signed for? |

Royal mail won't give you your money back if it was Recorded Delivery (Signed For). They will only reimburse you if it was Special Delivery. They will however reimburse the cost of the postage.
We had a similar situation, where my OH had sent Cash in the post (stupid, I know) recorded delivery. The addressee claims they never received it although there was a signed receipt in someone else's name, whom the addressee claimed he didn't know. We were reimbursed the cost of postage in first class stamps. In your case though since it something you bought maybe the seller will have more luck with Royal Mail as a company and maybe it was Special Delivery or, as bob187 try your Credit Card company if that is how you paid for the handbag. |

Ive heard of this thing happening before where people working either in the sorting offices or as Postmen and women have nicked expensive stuff.
Its really unaceptable and I'd be inclined to report it to the police as this is theft. |

I had a ring delivered to me about 6 weeks late with a note from Royal Mail saying that it had been recovered in a theft and apologising for it happening

the contract is with the sender and royal mail. they must claim with royal mail.
recorded is only covered by £39 (cash is not covered) special delivery could cover the full cost, however this is the senders problem, but as you paid by cheque there isnt much you can do if they dont fulfil their obligation. although if royal mail take the line of 'we have a signiture its been delivered' and the sender agrees your kind of stuck in what to do. |

Have you called Royal Mail and asked about it?
Try playing dumb to start with, tell them you're waiting for something to arrive and its not there yet and can they look it up for you please, and when they say its been delivered and signed for you can say "no noones signed for it here, you do have the correct address dont you" etc etc and when they say there is no address ask how you are supposed to go to an unknown address to collect your mis-delivered parcel that you took the special care to have sent recorded in order to avoid this problem. My friend had a dress sent to me for my birthday and it didnt fit, so i sent it back for another size. The company then sent the correct size, twice, to my friends uni address where the idiot new tenants signed for something not addressed to anyone who lives there. twice. If only the world had a bit more common sense.... |

I agree, its down to the sender to refund you, and they will then claim off royal mail. I know this for a fact as I work for a top online clothes retailer |

I'm very sorry to hear of your unfortunate experience, OP, but I'm afraid that if the bag is worth £140 then it should have been sent by Special Delivery.
Special Delivery is the only type of post which receives any special treatment, Recorded Delivery is no different whatsoever to normal postal service. Indeed, I know for a fact that, in many areas, the postmen don't even bother getting signatures for Recorded, it's just not considered to be worth doing considering what little extra people pay for the service! I wish you the very best of luck with your search. If the bag was sent by the company to yourself by Recorded Delivery and it has gone missing then I'm afraid that it's down to them to find your bag or, alternatively, to refund your money. It will be their loss as they chose to use a postal service which wasn't suitable for what was being sent. In any event they will only be able to claim £39, anyway. |

£140 for a handbag?
![]() Taken from your other thread - Quote:
But back to your OP, if you've paid by cheque then im afraid its not good news. Maybe if you can prove it with an invoice saying it will be delivered by Royal Mail you could take them to small claims court (sorry if what im talking's absolute rubbish)? ![]()

I'm a bit puzzled by this.
You ordered something and it never arrived. YOU did not sign for it so there is nothing to say that it arrived. Surely you should go back to the company from which it was ordered and get them to sort it out and send you a new handbag in the meantime. I realise that it is the company that you work for but surely there is still a customer / supplier contract here. It is up to the supplier to sort it out with royal mail not the customer. If I order a CD from Amazon and it doesn't arrive then I would expect Amazon to sort it out. |

I'm in agreement with Babe Rainbow. If it's not your signature and the signature they have is indecipherable, they should take this up with Royal Mail and send you a replacement. If my memory serves me correctly, don't they make you print your name as well as a sign when you receive a parcel?
I recently ordered something from HMV which they claimed had been delivered but I had not received. As they could not prove I had signed and received it, they quickly sent me a replacement. |

I'm still waiting for two items of mail which should have arrived by now.
Makes you wonder how many of the millions of items lost by Royal Mail every year are actually stolen? And whether a blind eye is turned to it? |

Head office said they are going to deal with it, hopefully they'll just send me another bag. I don't know what I'm going to do if they don't. My friend is training to be a lawyer though so maybe she'll know about the small claims court thing, as I have no idea. |

But just out of interest - if you work for the supplier, why did you not get the handbag delivered to you at your place of work ?? I would have, if it were me.......

The ironic thing is that I never had any problems when stuff was delievered to my work place, since they have made it more "secure" my bag has been stolen

Mmm - it's called Sod's Law ![]() I work in an office of 25 people and I open the post so nothing has ever gone missing at our place - but I suppose a Department store is a bit different. Having said that - there are still only a finite number of staff actually signing for deliveries so ...
