I hadn't noticed this before, but it really jumped out at me when I watched the BBC3 repeat last week. There are a couple of moments at the end of Journey's End when the actors' voices have obviously been added on afterwards (I seem to remember DT discussing this in Confidential once, and saying how much he disliked doing this as you lose the naturalness of the dialogue.)

Anyway, David Tennant's voice is noticeably different, much less "Doctor"-ish and much more "Natural DT"-sounding, even with a trace of his real Scottish accent creeping in on a couple of sentences.

The most noticeable bit is during the Bad Wolf Bay scene with the two Doctors, when he's explaining to Rose about why she has to stay with the clone. (I guess they had to redo the dialogue in places because it was noisy/windy on the beach.) And there's another bit...I think it's when he's talking to Wilf on the doorstep just before he says goodbye, right at the end.

Has anyone else spotted this? Now that I've noticed it, I can really understand why David Tennant is so reluctant to re-do dialogue after the event; it must be really hard to get back into the moment (and indeed the voice.)

I had spotted it - it's my local accent, so stood out right away. I hadn't twigged that it was ADR, though - seems obvious now you mention it, but I did wonder at the time how it happened.

Ah, I'm glad I wasn't imagining it! The ADR theory (is that additional dialogue recording?) is just my assumption, but it seemed to make sense, as it was obviously a windy day on the beach.

I'm trying to remember what the specific lines of dialogue were when it was really obvious. I think it's sometime around the speech about the clone being born in battle. "That's me, when you first met me" is the phrase that really jumps out at me as sounding more Real-DT rather than Doctor.

And in the scene with Wilf, I think the Doctor says something like "But that's fine", re the companions leaving, and it just doesn't sound like the Doctor, it sounds like DT being DT!

Yes I noticed the "that's fine" when it was first broadcast, very Scottish. Isn't there another episode from series two when he and Rose land in a playground it the start and behind the music you can indistinctly hear them chatting, and its just his normal / real accent?

...and also the bit on the doorstep when he says "you can never tell her" to Wilf.

I spotted the doorstep bits at the time but I'll need to have a look at the Bad Wolf Bay scene again...

DT was visibly tired towards the end of that series. So it's not a surprise to me that his accent slipped

Even if he did , I be happy dont like that accent he uses , mockeny , I like him but scottish would have been a better accent than London as its more softer ax just looking back like

He's got previous: in TGITF, when he turns round and shouts at the horse in the spaceship (IIRC, "What are you following me for? I'm not your mother!"), it sounds well Scottish...

I didn't notice n JE, but I definitely did in School Reunion when Rose is questioning how many companions there have been in the past and he says "does it matter!" not that I have an issue with it, as I love his real accent!!!! Buts definitely one time I have noticed it....

I recently re-watched the whole of Tooth and Claw and his Scottish accent is there nearly for half the episode! Why no one has noticed before, I've no idea, but clearly it possibly the worst example of DT being unable to maintain his mockney geezer tones. Someone should have clearly pulled him up on it during that shoot. Tsk.

Um...he did the scottish accent on purpose. they were in scotland, in order to not appear suspicious in front of the guards and the queen, he maintained the scottish accent.

It is common knowledge that he loathes the after dubbing, so perhaps he was just incredibly bored and let the accent slip because he wanted to get it over and done with as soon as he could?

Whatever the reason, I think it's cute, especially when he is talking to Wilf and says 'I'll be fine' in his broad accent
