Hotels in Nottingham
Any recommedations?
Looking at the Park Plaza but worked out it is £15 for breakfast I wouldn't mind paying that (too much) if it was a buffet... Has anyone stayed here? Thanks! |

My recommendation - don't go to Nottingham, it's a complete sh*thole.
If you must the ridiculously named "Dakota" Hotel is the least-bad hotel in this god-forsaken hell-hole of mediocrity. |

Notttingham is a gorgeous city as long as you stick to the city centre - don't try hotels in any of the suburbs.
Park Plaza looks nice from the outside but never needed to stay there. The Britannia (i think it is) looks a right dump so i'd avoid that one. x |

Nottingham has many good features aswell as its highly stereotyped side (eg: its supposed ranking of gun crime capital) I have seen alot worse than Nottingham on my travels. |

I have lived here for 40 years, never been mugged, robbed, burgled, assaulted, nor have any of my family or friends. There are rough parts, but so has very city. London is wonderful, but there are parts you wouldn't visit after dark there either. |

The Park Plaza is fine, and centrally located.
The Hilton is also not too bad, as is the Holiday Inn. All are central, and fairly reasonable. The Dakota is lovely, but as the OP says, is a bit of a trek from the city centre, fine if you are driving though. |

We stayed at the Park Plaza last Saturday night. Cost us £85 for the pair of us - in a Deluxe room (not sure how much bigger than a standard room it was - but the bed was massive, about 6 foot wide). That included breakfast for both of us - but I did book it plenty in advance, so it might have been a special offer at the time. Breakfast is buffet style, but isn't all that good - no hash browns, no mushrooms, no black pudding, only scrambled eggs at the buffet though I think they did offer to make fried, boiled or poached if you preferred. The bacon and the sausages were nice though.
And we stayed up drinking until 4am, and the management didn't kick up a fuss. ![]() We ate at the Indian restaurant directly opposite - it was gorgeous. And about half the price we'd have paid if we'd eaten in that Sushi restaurant that's part of the hotel. There's no car park, so you have to park in the multi-storey across the road, which costs £15 overnight. The Park Plaza is a million times better than the Hilton - we stayed in the Hilton last year, and were a bit disappointed at how old and run-down it felt. |

Nottingham is great! thankyou very much. Id LOVE to know where some of you live.
its a vibrant city full of arts centres fantastic music venues many huge artists and shows at the varous concert halls, arena and theatres! Park plaza is nice - but greatly overpriced and the breakfast is naff. whoever said the Brittania hotel is a dump has obviously never been in. Its clean, Modern and the breakfast is better. however I would pass on breakfast in any hotel and go to bunters Cafe' round the corner on parliament street!! |

I havent been into the britannia no, but it does look a dump from the outside which is all i was saying. I've never had need to actually stay in any of the hotels here.

I'll agree the Britannia does like a dump but I've never had any reason to go in it.
There's one near Rock City, can't remember the name. Wander through once. Looked nice but expensive. |

The Wellbeck Hotel is pretty close to Rock City. And so is the Nottingham Royal Moat House Hotel which could be the one you mean.

I loved Bunters, I do miss that place, and the staff, always so friendly. Hotels close to the city but cheap, we have the Premier Inn near the station, the Jurys inn, also near the station and the Ibis which is just off the market square. |

To be honest, even though I live here I don't really notice the hotels much, because I never need to use them! |

My mum stayed at Jury's Inn last year when she came to visit (before I had a spare room - I wouldn't ordinarily force my parents into a hotel!) and she liked it - it's near the train station and about 5-10 minutes walk minutes from the Ice Arena and Lace Market.
My dad and stepmum stayed at Rutland Square Hotel which is near the Castle - looks good from the outside but they said it wasn't quite so impressive on the inside - beds were comfy though, apparently! I love Nottingham, esp for all the different places to eat. Wish people wouldn't diss it so much! |

I usually stay at the Rutland square (see Monkey's mother's post), not far from the Britannia. Decent rooms, and good breakfasts. Only a short walk from the Olde Trip to Jerusalem pub too. Well worth a visit.
I personally thought the rooms in the Britannia were a bit run-down, like most Britannia hotels actually! Couldn't get in the Rutland square when I'm going up there just before Xmas, so staying in the Ibis instead. Usually decent hotels, but never stayed in that one before |
