Spooks Series 8 - BBC 1 Pace

Right then,

Thought that I'd start this thread so we can discuss the current Series of the BBC Drama Spooks.

As the title suggests this is for BBC 1 Pace only, please don't post any spoilers of BBC 3 Episodes in this thread.

For some 'spooky' reason, someone decided that a mainstream BBC1 programme was a 'cult' and started a thread on the other side!!

I miss Malcolm already - he's just a great character with gentle heroics, but a great end to his tenure and great to see at least one character chose to leave in a pleasant way

And Ruth! Yey for brilliant acting, her horror at her husband's death was very powerful.

Generally very good even if I have no idea of what country is doing what to whom and miss Zaf like mad, he was really good candy!

What an incredibly powerful start to the new season!!

WOW!!

It grabbed you by the throat, held you there in suspense, and then wrung you out like a wet flannel.

Absolutely incredible!!

WoW

British TV drama at its best!!

Glad Ruth is back ...she is amazing.

I suggest if you have not done so check out Touching Evil with Nicola Walker (Ruth) and Robson Green. She plays a cracking part in that. You can pick up the DVDVDVD's from all good outlets.

about:
Touching Evil

Touching Evil is a 1997 British television drama serial, produced by Anglia Television and screened on the ITV network. It consisted of six fifty-minute (one-hour with adverts) episodes. It was created by Paul Abbott, and written by Abbott (Cracker) with Russell T. Davies (Dr. Who) The serial was very popular, and led to two sequel serials in 1998 and 1999, although these were not written by Abbott or Davies.

THAT WAS BRILLIANT!!!

I've not been that gripped by a British TV programme since, well, the last series of Spooks.

I love the fact that it's an intelligent show which expects the viewer to keep up with the plot and isn't afraid to make things quite complicated at times.

i hate it when the new series starts and someone leaves (or dies) in the first programme - hate it, hate it, hate it. I actually thought Malcolm was going to get killed, so I am sort of glad he didn't, but stil

Although as we've seen with Ruth tonight, once a member of The Grid, always a member of the Grid... so there's nothing to say he won't come back...hopefully...

Another great opener for Spooks. Great to see Ruth back though not so nice to see her husband shot...though could prove interesting in the dynamics between her and Harry in the future. Think the new woman at the CIA is one to watch..methinks she will be a snake in the grass and just as tough as Ros. hope we haven't seen the last of Malcolm as whilst not always out in the field his asides and commentary to observing many events in The Grid were always amusing.

BBC3? Why the heck are they showing it first? Spooks has always been a BBC1 show.

They've pretty much always made the next episode available on BBC3 before BBC1 in previous series. Apart from the final episode usually

I'm sad that Malcolm has gone. I can't warm to Roz at all, Jo is barely given anything, and Lucas - for me at least - is still settling in. It's a good job that Ruth is back.

... wow ... not much more to say really ... that was an amazing episode! ... 'tis fabulous to have Ruth back at last ... she has to be one of my favourite Spooks characters ... very sad to see Malcom go, but I'm very glad he was able to save the kid, and manage not to get himself killed into the bargin!

One of the most gripping things about Spooks is that we know that no-one is safe. I don't think there is, or has been, another series ever where you can't guarantee that the main characters will survive. We know that nothing is a given, that anything could happen, and it sends your heartbeat through the roof!!

Can someone please remind me what happened in the last episode of the last series?

I lost focus on the first 10 mins or so of the new episode as I couldn't remember what had happened!!

I'm assuming the storyline carried on from a cliff hanger from the last episode of the last series?!!

Have we any idea if anyone is coming in to replace Malcolm and indeed Connie & Ben

I think the core cast is slightly weak at the moment, very similar characters, needs a bit of light relief in parts that Malcolm and Connie provided

... as far as I remember ... a Russian sleeper was activated to explode a nuclear bomb in London ... Connie had to be smuggled across london without being killed by the Russian Spooks (who weren't involved with the bomb plot) ... and to try to stop the Russians from killing Connie and Co Harry gave himself up to the Russians, and said that if he was lying about the bomb they could take him in Connie's place, as he was a much bigger asset ... in the end the Russians helped get the bomb to Connie and she de-activated the nuclear aspect of it, but was killed by the conventional blast as she was deactivating it ... when Ros and Lucas came back above ground they realised that Harry hadn't re-appeared after his meeting with the Russians, and that they must have taken him ...

... they never did replace Colin either! ... Connie was really a Ruth replacement, so I really hope Ruth will be back to fill Connie's place on the grid ... they'll have to have another techie or two to replace Malcom, although I'm not sure anyone can really take his place! ... guessing we'll be getting a few new characters this year, as they are currently very short!

So happy spooks is back its one of those programmes where i'm constantly on the end of my seat.

What a hard gripping episode to start of the series! Couldn't bear to watch the death scene of Ruth's husband. How brave was Malcolm going up to the "safe" house and trying to put Ruth's stepson at ease knowing full well that he and Nico are both in serious danger.

Bravo for Malcolm to save Nico from the *beeps* henchman and was upset that he left MI5 but relieved he didn't leave in a body bag.

Seriously thought in the opening scenes of the episode that Harry was a gonna.

Nic x

this was an excellent start to the series, gutted that malcolm is gone but glad he had a dignified exit, matched his character well. They need to give jo some meaty storylines now tho otherwise her character is pointless. I agree they need to replace malcolm but to have ruth step back in as connie- how would that work- after all as far as most of the goverment is concerned ruth is both dead and a traitor. Im interested in seeing her back as she is a great character and actress but id hate it if they just gloss over those points.

This show has got to be worth the license fee alone. How utterly awesome. I was perplexed for the whole hour.

So worth the wait, it always is!

So glad Malcolm didn't cop it! As he was walking to the safe house the penny dropped and I had a ghastly feeling he was leaving in a gout of bood.

He'll be back (is my hunch), but not for a while, and probably only briefly.
