Jade Goody. Has she been forgotten

There was a time when this forum was filled to the brim with Jade threads, people were getting banned left right and centre.

Obviously since she's dead, things have quietened down, but there seems to be little about her in the papers anymore. I wonder how her books or other merchandise are selling?

It seems like after her death, in the long term she isn't being held up as an example of how to live your life, which is the right thing IMO.

Why start a thread on someone who did little of any value when she was alive?

She's not around any more, so let's move on eh?

Well, I had completely forgotten about her now you mention it. She's not a relative of mine, I have no contact with anyone who knows anyone who knows her and she bears no impact on my life. Are you trying to suggest we should remember every dead sleb forever? I've got enough real life dead and dying friends and family thanks.

And if there aint been much in the papers about her, that means her friends, relatives (mum!), and other family are letting her REST IN PEACE.

Clearly as expected, interest has faded in her.

What I wanted to point out by starting the thread thoguh, is how quickly it has died down.

When she died, Gordon Brown and others gave praise saying that she would be remembered for the work she did to raise awareness. There was talk of a statue in Bermondsey. But she has hardly become a posterchild for cancer awareness in the long term. No charity has been set up in her name. She is hardly discussed on here anymore.

Do you think that her fame will stay the same as it is now, drop even further, or in the even longer term will she be looked on more fondly and perhaps things will be named after her?

Definitely not have things named after her, except maybe a swimming pool in Bermondsey or wherever she was from.

I think it goes to prove that the whole Jade thing from beginning to end was completely over-hyped for people to have tired of it and forgotten so quickly.

I guess it's because once the whole circus died down, people moved on, and forgot, and while yes, she did raise awareness of cancer, I'd be willing to bet that all the panic is now over, replaced with something else for everyone to panic over eg swine flu.

She only seemed to really become famous after she was diagnosed with cancer

..... and as soon as threads were closed, others sprang up in their place .....

Yeah, there was "much ado" from the publishers regarding the charity element of the profits, but, personally I've seen no sales figures or cheque presentations .....

Yeah, for all the "Road To Sainthood" coverage of Goody's death, there's been no word from the Vatican nor any applications to the Custodians of the National Street Gazetteer hub .....

The details of "Jade's Will" were due to be made available in October, but, AFAIK, nothing has yet been published - are the "Indian Railway Children" STILL waiting .....

No offence but I think Gordon fkn Brown has got FAR WORSE things to be worrying about than flippin Jade Goody. Such as losing the next election, spiralling unemployment, homelessness, debts, losing the war in Afghanistan, mass immigration, need I go on...... Do you ACTUALLY think he has spent even 1 second considering a statue to Jade? Awareness? Everybody knows about cancer. Donate to Marie Curie hospices or something.

Much-mooted but never actioned :

The Bermondsey council block where Jade Goody lived as a child could be renamed after her.

Officials are even putting in an application for a blue memorial plaque.

Improvement plans at the Dickens Estate could include a new community centre named after the Big Brother star and a tree planted in her honour.

The plans emerged as it was revealed that a movie and a charity single are set to be released to remember Jade.

Meanwhile Jade, 27, has arranged for a charity to be set up. She wants them to use her name to support good causes - just like Princess Diana's memorial fund.

Friends said "It will be called the Jade Goody Foundation and it will be very high profile. Jade sees it working in a similar way to the Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, using her name and memory to continue supporting worthy causes."

No. I've not forgotten Jade existed. I can still picture her being on Big Brother with Kate and Johnny. I can picture her being all upset through being too sensitive about a verruca on the bottom of her foot I think all Jade wanted in the end was to provide security for her two sons.

I think threads like this are a little pointless and its interesting to see those who say they wanted to forget her or dont like her are the ones that continue to bring her up on the board.

I can think of plenty of dead people that barely get any mention in papers or forums, are they forgotten?
Jade obviously made a huge impact for people to continue raking up newspaper articles several months after her death.
Clearly Jade must have been on the mind of the OP to bring this thread up.

The girl is dead, she didnt have music to release after her death,or films or anything like that because she was a zelebrity not a celebrity.
She wasint a monster or some super mega nasty person, she was just another reality tv gameplayer who used the media as much as the media used her.
She had fans and haters and the truth many dont want to hear is she had that something that made you want to contribute to posts in forums either for or againest her.

I will not forget Jade because she was an important part of a favourite tv show of mine for 10 years,in the same way I wont forget dana plato because the tv show diffrent strokes was part of my childhood, you dont have to have inches in papers to be remembered.
