Trying to source,------ ( electrical )

Hello,

I'm looking for 1-to 3 fuse carriers as per the 1st link, decent second hand will do.

They are Mem Exel 60 amp.

My usual couple of sources for such things have none, which is not surprising considering the age of the isolator in the 2nd link from which they come from.

Can anyone help?

Geez... How old is that Mr S?????

Is THIS what you're looking for?

ETA... Just noticed these are Exel 2... They might have a suggestion for an older style though... Not sure if your type is no longer to BS though...

Hi Lady D

15 years I reckon at least.

Getting a box isn't a problem, it's the carriers but I'll give em' a try, thanks for the link.

My two or three rummage shops/contacts, well I can still here their laughs in my ears.

The whole electrical system needs updating, to this restaurant, they know this, middle of 2010 they say.

In fact I can buy them new, £ 25 + delivery, flamin heck, I'd rather put a new breaker on the wall for them, I rarely require fuse carriers, I was shocked by the price.

It's good to here from you, what have you been up to, are your lot well, how's you?

Fuse wire, stripped out bit of cabling, rusty nail until 2010 ?????

Last I spoke to you Mr S you were up to your eyebrows in chaos...

Not too bad here... Getting used to having an arch window carved out of the back of my head and Mr Dragon's doing strangely, really well... Off dialysis at the moment as the transplant (gawd knows why or how) decided to wake back up after its three month hiatus... A few blips with bloods but he's feeling great which is marvellous as I can crack the whip again...

Tribe all ok... Muddling... But muddling quite well which is a good thing... Strange old time of year at the moment as you can guess... But not toooooooo bad... They haven't locked me up yet...

I hope all's well with the family now and your back's settled?

*note to self... Remind Mr S of his last PM...

Thanks Woodbush,

They made three different carriers for that box would you believe, straight leg, stepped leg and short leg, I never knew that.

I'll give em' a call in the morning.

Great link, that one is already in my address book.

Have you considered fitting circuit breakers instead?

The whole lot is being ripped out beginning of 2011.

Meanwhile the circuits were over loaded hence the state of the fuse carriers,--- kept blowing, I've resolved that but the existing carriers look really iffy.

I'd like to try and help them out first before landing them with an only option.

Wotcha seacam,

You are really relying on a wholesaler having this stuff left on the shelf. Have you tried TLC?

TLC-Direct

Other than suggesting ebay (yes, I know), have you thought about asking on one of the electricians forums? That's the sort of stuff people are ripping out all the time so someone might have lying about.

Try these two for starters;

Hi LCD and thanks.

I'm a member of both sites, different user name, It's where I went first.

Hopefully the The Fuse Company will pan out for me, they're looking now.

I tried 4-5 TLCs no good, will try further a field.

Mean while what did you think of that pic I sent you, thought you might like this.

Was going to post it in the Electrician forum, here will do.

Called out by an established hotel and restaurant chain Surrey area.

The story behind this was a staff member got quite badly burnt after touching it.

The photo does it little justice, it's extremely hot.

There is 3 phase going through that.

Incredibly to the left of it is a shelf that had plants on it which the owner's wife insisted the staff watered every day.

Owners are a little upset that H&S has got a tad upset with them.

They assure me the guy they know from their local pub who does their electrical work is up to spec' and fully qualified, but they can't recall his name at the moment and they are going to find the paper work to show H&S.

I've had to edit the photo some what to prevent the Establishment being identified as while not at the moment, I have no doubt this will end up in court.

It's a staff eating area, what the photo also doesn't show is the box is actually arcing and there is pools of water from the watering can under it.

I was griping hold of the edge of a table while they are telling me their tale of woe.

I would have chopped the lot there and then had they not had guests.

To be fair to them, they had little choice, they are/have undertaking major upgrade.

Mean while staff member's hand is going to be badly scarred, for life.

Then people wonder sometimes why I get a little tetchy with their irresponsibility and indiffrence.

BTW thanks for link on shoes, ordered from them, sorted, the boys take after their Dad for big feet.

Edit,

Seacam if I had seen this yesterday you would have had some. I was helping out an Electrician friend last night who was just finishing of a major rewire of a property. It was those exact fuse carriers and that as well. All were in very good condition for their age, we chucked the lot in the skip and that has since been lifted.

Such as life. Hope you get them but I haven't seen any other than those in properties I have worked on. Good luck with your hunt.

Always the way init Gorilla, some where In a skip nearby is the answer to the problem,---I always think that.

And I probably threw out the same myself.

Got a field full of barns and sheds, which I sorted recently, you can't keep hoarding,---so the wife says,-----why do you think I do dearest?

Even had to ditch some of my on going restoration projects, the fact they might have been on-going for a few years,---hmmm, I'm not building them on the wife's kitchen table so couldn't really understand what her beef was.

I could cry, I know I lugged some of those carriers.

Thought you might be - I recognise the "style" in a few posts.

Nothing shocks me anymore mate, but that seems a particularly nasty job. Bet the "electrician" who did it has NO PLI!! Were they hoping if they watered it, it would grow into a sub-station?

There is no way this mystery man is a trained sparky of any kind,------not a chance.

The owners are completely irresponsible and deserve the book thrown at them, dangerous and in-endangerment IMO.

Guaranteed if prosecuted, this story will hit the rags.

I isolated power and removed the bad cables though.

Oh yeah the name MEM electrical brings back memories, along with some of the older MK electrical stuff like their old electrical sockets with the 'toggle' style switches.
