Can't wait for this either! Love disaster films! As long as it isn't like The Day after Tomorrow! (You're ok if you can keep the home fires burning!) :-)

The trailer looks absolutely ridiculous: one continuous shot of various buildings and landscapes collapsing into oblivion. It's not like I expected an epic oscar contender or anything, but I mean come on, gimme a break.

Has this Emmerich ever made a film that wasn't an end-of-the-world disaster movie? Seems like he just re-hashes the same idea in a new film every few years. It was fun when it was Independence Day and we could overlook the cheese and appalling story for the gee-wow effects, but it's just getting old now.

Plus, am I not right in thinking that this whole "the Mayans believed the world would end in 2012" is a long-debunked urban myth, based on the fact that the Mayans numerical system simply couldn't go past 2012 (this being a few years before the Arabs invented the number zero and brought about the base-ten numbering system we're all used to having no upper limit)

Why does the trailer voice insist on calling it 'Two Thousand and Twelve' (or more likely, 'Two Thousand Twelve' given that it's American) rather than Twenty Twelve', which is surely what most people will be calling it?

I've seen it - it's pretty dire, with the exception of the special effects, which are so outrageously good they make a bad film worth watching (annoyingly). My review here if you're interested: http://bit.ly/3jItoa

Probably because most normal people say Two Thousand and Twelve, and not what the media think we should say (Twenty Twelve).

I'm looking forward to this

I know it's not going to great, but if it's got decent special effects I'll enjoy two hours of it. It does help that John Cusack's in it as well!

Really? Boy, you need to get out more?!!!

It really is a terrible, terrible film. The kind of film that you really don't care who lives or dies. As mentioned elsewhere though, the effects are pretty impressive. But sadly the same can't be said for the awful dialogue and below par acting (for John Cusack at any rate).

I disagree.

But Newsnight have annoyingly gone the opposite way, referring to years gone by as 'twenty oh three' or 'twenty oh five'.

Hmm, I've always read years as 'Two Thousand and Nine/Ten/Whatever', but then again I also say Nineteen Ninety Nine. Perhaps I'll avoid both when I go to cinema, and just ask for a ticket for the disaster movie, please

You'd end up getting a ticket for The Invention Of Lying

You're criticising the script after writing a review like that?

I loved it, gotta be best disaster film i've seen in ages, better than The Day After Tommorrow, loved all the plane/limo stuff when the world was literally falling apart around them, very funny in parts, I think one of the kids said something like Gordon can fly and he was like will you stop telling people i can fly planes, basically anything to do with Gordon and flying made me lol, pretty sad in parts too.
