Rarer quirks and picky bits on the new EPG

Disclaimer : Not a thread to moan about the EPG, plenty of those to pick from for those who want that kinda thing - and for those still waiting there is no need to comment that your glad you don't have it & it's only good for ITVHD or killed a box etc.

These are my current constructive list on my Samsung HD box of things that I would like to see corrected in the first bug fix update, in no particular order.

1. Most will rarely see this but at 2am you now get the following message....

"The STB is going into StandBy mode"

Despite plenty of room in the more information box they have used an acronym where any of 'Sky Box/Digibox/Sky+HD etc.' would have been preferable (my folks wouldn't know what a STB is - and there was no need for it), and worse they decided on a capital 'B' in standby for no reason.

2. Another quirk is that during the daytime when asked for a PIN on any anytime show (was No Signal) - when the PIN entry screen was on when I entered '0' as the first digit of my PIN it kept bringing up the 4 digit channel changer for radio. After several attempts it managed to go beat it.

3. When scrolling across the 'options' menu the 'Other Channels' doesn't show up the contents of the lower box - it can do it for favourite which is different on every box, why can't it display the contents of that box?

4. The EPG software version in system details, the box isn't big enough - why no make the version number smaller - take out the word multiplatform and you can do it, here would have been a good place to abbreviate rather than on a message to viewers.

5. Search and Scan banner - totally random timing as to how long it stays depending on if you are looking at the current program or have scrolled to a future show. Around 4 seconds, on a future show often isn't enough.

6. It has been brought up before but is the most annoying thing that the now/next both being on the blue is the jump down or up to the EPG to the previous channel and using that as the starting point for favourites browsing.

7. Radio Stations - As the data now comes from the HDD 'now and next' should be available when listening. If its never going to be technically possible to do it, then take out the 'further schedule information is not available'.

8. Radio Station Browsing - 'Schedule information not available', when browsing it should be possible to see whats on if this is now HDD stored.

9. Anytime - Why give the 'brief' information by default and then have users press 'i' to get the same information expanded by an extra 2 lines. Why not skip the brief info except in a stack. Also channel names or descriptions should show if the program is available to all Sky users - for example 'Christmas Carol' on Sky Premier right now, isn't encrypted, as is much of the Sky Sports highlights that are often on.

Who can find the most quirky/picky thing to complete the top ten, and there are so many other threads covering the half hearted miniscreen / background sound clash that it can't be included as its be done to death already......
