By the sounds of it, his box might be one those boxes that's not compatable with the 8k Transmission Mode. Unfortunately any box that just picks up channels that use 2k Transmission Mode, will be useless after switchover is complete. The first indication of trouble will be that the BBC Channels, having adopted the higher mode, will not be accepted by your box.

The rest will follow the same path come the second switchover date.

It seems that he is not the only one, as there is already another thread on this. You might find some helpful info there.

GDT1500 was one of the first freeview boxes.. it'll be 7 years old now - time for an upgrade.

He says he has done a rescan do you think he should do a manual scan ?

This STB is affected by the split NIT problem!

Maybe its time to take it to be recycled by the store of your choice when you go to purchase an inexpensive replacement that has the Digital tick logo!

As I undersatand it, this is because it can't handle a mix of 2K & 8k Muxs.
Can anyone tell me if this issue will be resolved after the December retune, when all go 8k?

The split NIT is a separate issue from the switch to 8k from 2k and as far as I am aware it is a hardware limitation so a software fix seems unlikely.

There was an update to fix the split NIT & this box can handle 8k in the hardware. But it's not working right atm - possibly because it can't handle both 2k & 8k at the same time?

There are two versions of the GDT1500. The early ones have not been updated AFAIK but the later type the GDT1500T has been updated by Inview as part of the Teletext Extra roll out. This can get confusing because "T" versions do not necessarily have the "T" as the model type on the ID label.

The updated firmware can handle simultaneous 2k and 8k transmissions as well as the split NIT. I can confirm that from my own experience.

I assume that the OP has a model that has never received an update. If you can post the firmware version number which is seen in the set up menu under Technical Information we will be able to let you know if it's a box issue or a reception problem.

I have an Inverto IDL-7000 PVR (firmware V3) and since the 4th Nov I've noticed that the channels such as BBC1 that are now broadcasting at 8k are a bit 'juddery' for want of a better description! The signal and quality strengths are very good. The 2k channels are fine.

Basically, the screen intermittantly shakes from left to right which is most noticeable when there is text on the screen.

The Freeview tuner on my Sony TV is fine.

Anyone else noticed this? Is there anything I can do?

Will this happen on all channels in December or is it happening due to a mix of 2k and 8k being broadcast at the same time?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

It sounds as though the unit is not compatible in practise with (a mix of 2k/) 8k signals, despite being expected to be so. The same transpired to apply to the Pioneer DBR-TF100, their specifically Freeview STB (i.e. not made for OnDigital).

What I have tried was to put a IDTV next to the main TV and fed both from the same aerial via a passive splitter and watched the same channel (on the same MUX) on both at the same time, the [Pioneer dbr-tf100] TV still has the problem while the IDTV was OK.

I also spoke to Pioneer support about this problem and they knew about it, they have had quite a few queries about this problem but are not going to do anything about a cure, re the age if the kit, (I think). They sort of agreed that this may be the cause of the problem

That is the latest update and it should work OK with 2k/8k and the split NIT.
