Sandra Fortuna's blog

Don't know if it's been mentioned much on here. It's well written and gives you a different perspective on the Strictly experience. A good read even if you're not a Brian fan.

Yes it's pretty well known.

She's not too impressed with the treatment Brian's receiving on the forums is she? And i think she wants him home, it's understandable i suppose.

It is interesting to read her veiws on the show though.

"I have enjoyed watching the stories and journies of the SCD dancers, but when I scroll through different sites and read some of the things people write about the dancers I feel bad for them and I realize that with all the beauty all the wonderful benefits and fun of this dance show are just a glimmer of light in a confused, cruel world. The dancers on SCD are very attractive-every single one of them. They are dedicated and accomplished in life and in dancing. Their job is demanding physically, emotionally and creatively. None of them deserve as much criticism as they get. "

Surely she couldn't mean this site could she...

Wouldn't surprise me! But she's probably referring to the BBC forums as she used to post there. I tried the forums over there last year and it was a bit

I'm not sure if the thread is still there (on the Beeb forums) but someone posted a very nasty thread about Brian.

I think I know the one you're talking about...haven't bothered joining this year but do follow the dance teachers thread over there. Doesn't seem to have a lot of contribution this year as last year though.

There always seem to be nasty threads about the way the pros/celebs look. If it was kind of done with good humour then it's not so bad but some of the threads over there are just outright nasty and spiteful. Very uncomfortable reading.

People do post some downright awful things, I noticed quite a lot on here about Natalie and her weight. I can imagine it can be very upsetting for the friends and family of the celebrities to read.

There is nothing wrong with a bit of banter but I do get uncomfortable when it gets too personal.

I agree on here, Natalie has come in for a lot of nasty, hateful jibes.
Using a thread with an "innocent" sounding discussion topic, somehow is seen as an open invitation for the most horrible personal comments about her to gather apace.

The problems lie with the poster though. Any celebrity and that's one of the prices you pay for the ability to do a job you love and get paid rather more than the average UK worker. It's not right but while we have an underclass of people who do not know when it is the right thing to keep your opinions to yourself, it will happen.

I suspect it was pressure of the like which caused Nat to lose the weight she did a couple of years ago. Well, she's a beautiful, funny and charming person and good luck to her remaining happy. I love Vincent too - he is so lovely to every female he gets. Must make them feel special.

I can quite understand Sandra wanting out of the forums as to see it posted about your own son must be so heartbreaking. I'm sure it upsets her more than Brian!

Does the Beeb board have an ALERT button?
If postings which contravene T&C are promptly alerted to the Mods who then remove same where appropriate, then vicious posters will have no reason to bother again.

For nightmare postings to prosper, they require only that decent readers do nothing.

The Beeb boards always get nasty about this time, when a percieved better dancer goes out at the expense of another. Ali and Brian are getting quite a bit of stick. I think I know the thread about Brian you're referring too and it's not pleasant I dread to think what will happen if they put out Chris or Jade in a dance off

I tried to do that several times, the problem is that the moderators view of what's a nasty personal remark doesn't seem to mesh with normality. It also doesn't help that posts can't be edited if one changes one's mind. They just don't remove them, unless there is any sort of profanity involved.

I made a few posts there recently (mostly about the godawful clothing, in the hope that someone from the wardrobe dept might read them if they're on the BBC site), but after the behaviour last year, haven't bothered much. The BBC one is a MEAN board.

only visted the BBC boards once that was enough - but this place is nasty this year and I have therefore kept to other forums on DS rather than this one

You can alert and the threads can be taken away but it never stops them. Some will change their nickname, pretend to be fans of someone in a few posts then write some nasty posts, then change their nickname and start all over again. And the moderators aren't very quick to react if I recall.

Some people's obsession with pros/celebs they hate is quite disturbing to read. You do wonder if there is actually something seriously wrong with them!

The Beeb forums make people at DS seem sickly sweet!

I no longer post on the BBC boards. Far too many vicious posts are responded to and allowed to go unmoderated.

Not really, DS has it's own psychopaths, they came out in force on the Dancing on Ice forum last year, and possibly the only reason they haven't quite got into their stride on this board yet is because the season isn't late enough. Give them time.

This doesnt really surprise me as some of the meaner stories doing the rounds appear to have been instigated by the shows producers. Infact it wouldnt surprise me if they were responsible for some of the nastier posts.

I must find a dark room

This reflects no credit on the Beeb management overseeing their own chat room. Claudia ought to know all about it, but evidently she has no appetite to be either a messenger of bad news or a campaigner agin it. Has anybody tried complaining to the Beeb Complaints link? That bureaucracy is so large the left hand would not know what the right hand does.

I do believe that innocent bystanders once they have read a nasty post, cannot then unread it. They walk away with a bad taste in the mouth, carrying a bad memory. People go there because they trust the Beeb. Having heard these stories I would no more go there than I would look at the gorgon. Legend has it that one look at the gorgon would turn the heart of man to stone.

I enjoy reading Mrs Fortuna's blog when I get a chance. If I was on telly I would never read any forums and would try and keep away from any stuff in the papers. I've heard a lot of celebs say similar. You just could not function if you were to read a lot of the nasty stuff written.
I think this forum has been kind to Brian since he started on SCD.

Must admit I get concerned when Claudia says, usually on Monday to the couple who went out 'and there are some interesting posts on the forum'. I have an image of a celeb who having been busy every day for the last few months, now finds themself at a loose end and thinks oh yes, I must have a look at those.... Not always what someone who has just lost in a public vote wants to see.

Just had a read of this blog, it's really interesting and Sandra comes across as such a lovely lady. No wonder that Brian turned out to be such a gent!

Ive been following Mrs fortuna's blog from last year, always enjoyed her perspective as a dance teacher and mother of one of the SCD professional. I'm curious to know how does Mrs fortuna get to watch ITT at the time of transmission. I know last year forum members were sending her the link. I don' think this is the case this year, I maybe wrong.

Too right! I signed up to go on the DOI forum and ended up not daring (or even caring) to post. 'Twas venomous.
