Can I blag a V+ box if I threaten to leave?

Will this work? I don't want to leave myself short if it goes wrong. I don't mind paying the extra for channels, but I'm not happy with paying a £99 install charge.

Any other tips to get a free install would be most appriciated

Cheers
D

No it won't. People on here always say go to retentions and they wil do whatever, you may find your disconnection request is just accepted ! If you currently have the TV already you can simply pay £75 same as a new customer if you keep your existing box on in another room for £5 per month. The best thing to remember is these boxes are actually £150 but always on offer atm, so they will not reduce the costs further.

Sorry

Looks like I should have got my arse in gear when Sky where giving away free Sky+ boxes with new subscriptions

£75 isn't worth it for a year - Anyone managed to blag it for less than £75?

If you want it, pay for it.

If you don't want it enough to pay for it, don't get it.

Why is this so confusing? It's hardly rocket science.

I got mine by sending an email of complaint to the CEO office, I said I was not happy paying for a service where it keeps freezing, takes ages to change channel and the EPG is un-viewable in 1080 mode, made a point that I knew the new Samsung box works better and said I pay for a service and expect the best from that service. A nice lady from the CEO office got back to me, asked a few questions then called my local Virgin technician to see if he had any boxes, he did so she told him he had o come round and fit one in for me, the best part of this was he came round before to fix my old box, I asked him about the new Samsung box and he told me they didnt exist so he looked a bit silly, lol.

Why is it so confusing for you that someone want's value to make the most of their money and to save a few quid? - If there was a way to save £75 you'd have to be a moron not to take it.

You don't need a 2 figure IQ to work that one out!

My advice is to give it a shot. Its perfectly normal and nothing to be ashamed about to haggle despite what others may say. Lets face it, not every customer pays the same. VM have a range of prices to cater for this.

I was actually cancelling the other night as I'd been offered a good deal from Sky which was a new SkyHD, telephone line installation, 3 months free line rental and Sky Talk & Free broadband with the HD Mix for £38 a month.

When i rang through querying how to cancel VM, they offered a V+ @ £49 but no major reductions on the price of the packages so I signed with Sky.

As it turned out the Sky installer turned up in the dark at 5:20 for his 8am to 1p install slot and I was told the phone line installation was now delayed by 3 weeks as the dish installation had to be rescheduled. I cancelled the SkyHD install and will be staying with VM, so might phone up and see if the £49 install on a V+ is still on offer!!

Would agree with you on this goomba i tend to haggle but i would not call it something for nothing as when i do vm always tie me in for another 12 month contract, so it is nothing to be ashamed of at all,i get a cheaper deal and vm get a guaranteed income off me for 12 months win win situation.

My current deal is XLTV including v+,phone m, skysports/movies, and 10meg BB,for £64 including the line rental for the phone, and the recent sports/movies increase.

I would advise anyone to try to see if they can better their deal .

To Gave_up,get on the phone and ask them about the £49 v+ box, re-your last paragraph i had the same problem with sky as you appear to have had,and after a re-book for a fourth appointment i gave up!!!!! and went with what was NTL,and have been pretty pleased with the service (so far). nearly 3 years on.

When I was installed on 12th Oct 2009, I wanted the following :-

V+ HD box (FREE)
TV-XL Package £21.50
Phone £11 a month
Broadband £5 for 2 months then £14 on the L Package
Installation (FREE)

I think the first 2 months TV and Broadband are free anyway, or it could be 3 months, not 100% sure.

This is what I asked for and this is what I got as an offer. I did not have to pay for the V+ HD box at all.

Offers change all the time, so I considered myself lucky to get the above.

I guess it all depends, my mate got one free last week. the trick is not to threaten to leave but to ask what they can do for you. Ask about free install and be very nice to them. It all depends on what kind of customer you are (do you pay ontime, have you been with them for a while etc).
They were very nice to my mate and he gets a lot more increased BB from 10 to 20m meg and also got unlimited calls and an extra V box and only pays around £3 extra per month.
