Get A Provisional Licence on the day (DVLA)

My driving licence has just recently been revoked due to get 6 points within my first two years of driving. i now need to reapply for a provisional license A.S.A.P due to my job(mechanic).

Is it possible for the DVLA to issue a licence on the day if i made a trip to swansea?. i have tried a contact number off the website but its all automated

i cant really wait 6weeks + due to this bloody postal strike, i could send it special delivery to speed things up tho.

My friend applied for a provisional and got it 3 days later. It may be different though for you as you had your licence taken away.

A friend of mine tried and failed at this, due to them not doing the printing of the licenses on site. You'll have to do it by post I'm afraid..

On the plus side, the postal strikes have been called off until after xmas.

How does having a provisional licence help with your job?

If you have totted up your points to the cut off in your case which is 6 you may well be in for a driving ban. I would look into this just now as if you are due a ban the DVLA will not give you a licence until your ban is up.

Dont you get an automatic ban for totting up six points within your first 2 years?

Actually, I don't think this is the case.

If you tot up 6 points, you simply 'lose your license' and must reapply for a provisional and take your test again (at a higher fee). It's not a conventional ban.

Use the waiting time to get some lessons and be competent when you get your licence back.

Errr, he won't be able to take any lessons without holding a provisional licence?

So the only inconvenience of totting up points is having to reapply for a provisional and start from scratch, so to speak? What a stupid system, there are some people who just wouldn't see this as a deterrent.

Actually, I passed my test in January and as such I'm subject to the rules of the New Drivers Act.

I'm terrified at the thought of having to do the driving test again and I'd happily take a 6 month ban over having my licence revoked.

Just to clarify how it works:

If you get 6 or more points on your licence within TWO years of passing your FIRST driving test, then your licence is revoked automatically by the DVLA (and there is no appeal process). This isn't a ban, so you can apply for a provisional licence and pass both tests as soon as is possible (i.e. when you can get the relevant appointments and pass).

Only 1/2 of the people who have their licence revoked in this manner get their licence back.

HOWEVER.. Looking at the other side..

People who just receive a conventional (lets say, 2 year) straight ban - are allowed to drive again without redoing their test when their ban expires.. (I think!)

Generally yes, although for some offences the court can/is obliged to order a retest (or an extended retest).

You drive other peoples cars

Reminds me of the bloke at the garage I bought my car off.. he was like 25 and had 7 points from jumping a red light and dangerous driving

What is it about people in the motor trade??

Well hopefully not mine.

You know the rules and consequences but disregard them, have your licence suspended, and your employer allows you to drive other peoples cars.

If you continue to drive like an idiot you will soon be disqualified after you tot up 12 points.

Perhaps he hasn't informed his employer that his licence has been revoked/suspended.

you dont even know the full story. i will give you taster.
i was driving my motorbike which had no insurance at the time, due to it expirying a week before which i was unaware at the time. because i have a pay as you go policy it cancels at the end of each month then i can pay for another month if i wish to do so. i do it this way because i dont use my motorbikes in the winter because im a wuss and hate the cold, i just forgot at the time i wasnt insured.

for customers cars i have a traders policy for allowing me to drive them for business use and it also covers my own cars for personal use.

i know i was in the wrong by not checking my isurance status, but i am not moaning about it or going on about how the police might of be picking on me because of my age (18) lol.

by the way i dont drive like a idiot

If you'll have only a provisional licence, presumably you'll only be able to drive customers' cars if you're accompanied by a qualified driver? Who's that going to be? The customers, or someone from the garage where you work?
