Moving house - phone extension sockets?

Hi,

I'm moving house next week to a non-cabled street.

The house currently has a BT line.

We are getting a Virgin Media phone package on that line and Virgin Media ADSL broadband.

We need to get some additional phone extensions fitted throughout the house (all going back to the current BT line number that's already there).

Is this something Virgin Media can do or do we have to go through BT to get someone out to install extension sockets?

Thanks.

You would have to go to BT as its their line and im pretty sure they`ll charge £75 for each socket!
Probably better off trying to get a do it yourself jobby or a man from the classifieds.

Why not just get cordless phones that all run off 1 base station? You could get a set of 4 for a fraction of what it will cost you to get those extra sockets.

Thanks for the reply.

The additional extension sockets won't be for phones - they will be for Sky boxes to plug into.

Then that is down to Sky or whoever installs the boxes to install the links to each box.

It's going to be expensive if you get BT to do it. We had 3 put in for Sky and we got charged £300 - which worked out about £50 a socket (I think) plus a call out charge

If an appropriate telephone socket is not available or the Box cannot be connected to such a socket for any other reason, we will not be able to deliver or install your Digital Satellite Equipment. Instead, we will arrange a later installation date once you tell us that the appropriate telephone socket has been installed. In connecting the Box to the socket, we will use the nearest available socket and any cabling will be clipped to the relevant skirting.

Sky could by all means probably use an extension cable for us to run round the house, but it's not ideal. Plus we'll be wanting at least one other extension point for a phone as the master socket is in completely the wrong place.

Thanks. Might be worth me trying to get someone other than BT to do it then.

Well like I said, it's skys job to run the links for the boxes from the nearest phone socket and they can do this externally or internally same as BT or anyone else would.
At least then if you did want an extra socket for a phone, your only paying for the 1 or you could go for the cordless option.
