Passports Question!!!!!!!!!!

Does each passport you get have a unique number?

For instance, if you did something naughty abroad but left before you got caught and then returned some years later with a new passport, would they know it was you?

There will definitely be a link between one issue of a passport and another, i.e you number is unique to you in some way.

For exactly the reason you are trying to get around.

Deleted the bit about being deported as I see you left before being found out.

You never know, you may not have anything to worry about.

Go and see how you get on. All you risk is an anal probe. Maybe.

The unique number will link to database with records.

When you apply for a new passport, you must send your old passport to the passport office to be cancelled

Australia.

Which has one of the most paranoid & alert immigration & customs departments in. the. world.

You may well get away with it - but the 24 hour trip down here will be rather tense...

Oh and if your naughty thing was 'overstaying your welcome' they REALLY hate that...

Leaving australia was one of the most tense few hours ever! As soon as i got on the plane and it left the runway i felt s huge sigh of releif.

It wasnt a major crime or indeed a crime at all, just a little white lie

C'mon.... what did you do? Give us a few more hints. If it's not a crime then does it actually matter?

Surely your passport number changing is irrelevant? They will have your name and date of birth on record as well which is far more likely to get you caught.
