Courier Nightmares

Just wondering if someone could give me some advice on an issue I am having with couriers. I always get anything I buy delivered to my business, but the couriers keep on taking it upon themselves to redirect my packages to a different address entirely. The confusion comes because there used to be a large business on our estate with the same name as my surname. They left 3 years ago but some of their suppliers still use their old address and we have to bounce their packages fairly regularly.

As a result of this, about 50% of couriers now take my packages to this other address. I wouldn't mind but we are a different number on the road and a different postcode, as well as it being a full name on the addresses, not something LTD. This has been brought up with them but it keeps happening. Every time it happens it delays my packages by a day till I find out what has happened, I then have a 30 minute drive to collect it or a further two day wait for the courier to sort it out.

What happens if the package goes missing at the other address and where is the liability for all this inconvenience and lost time?

Why dont you ask the people at this address not to sign for your packages?

I have asked and they have managed a couple of times. Unfortunately though it is a large business with many employees signing for stuff. They are not really interested in training all their staff to look out for a delivery for me

When placing order, give instructions to company that item is not to be redirected, maybe inform the companies you're buying from as well of the situation.

That isn't an option on most web sites I buy from, if it was I would definitely do so. I suppose that I could change my name on the order forms to "DO NOT REDIRECT", but that would cause credit card authorisation issues

Can you not use your real surname for the credit card details, but a different one for the delivery address -E.g. your second name, or whatever will work for you.

Agreed. I don't think the name on the delivery address has to match the credit card, only on the billing address. After all, you could be having it delivered to your husband's address or your mums or anywhere else with a different name, couldn't you?

That might be worth a try. Still think it is ridiculous that they don't deliver to the listed address, isn't that against the law?

If there is a redirect in place it gets redirected - the company has paid for that service.

There is definitely no redirect in place. I have confirmed this with the company and courier. It is merely a case of them trying to save a second trip out with the package. I know Royal Mail state that "By law we have to deliver the mail to the stated address (not the named person)"

Does this not apply to couriers? Also what happens if something is signed for at the other business then is lost or damaged? Is the person signing at fault / liability, the courier or is it just my tough luck?
