VIRGIN Movies / Music?

Isn't it about time Virgin Media launched some more tv channels, only Virgin1 which is pretty terrible. There could be a few movie channels or some music channels, i know so far Virgin media is stronger on the broadband side of things, but Branston could get some more channels surely

If not isn't it time we had some other movie channels?? It just seems like Sky has all the movies, but they don't always have the best choice of films

Yes i am aware that Challenge, LIVING and Bravo are part of Virgin media

Which are up for sale at the moment so what are the chances of them launching more?

Music channels yes they could sign carriage deals for Scuzz, Bliss, Chart Show TV, Flaunt, The Vault, Flava, NME TV, Clubland TV, Rockworld all the ones missing from VM tv platform.

Movies no chance as all the rights are tied up. I'd say there was no chance of seeing anymore Virgin channels. More chance of closures like Trouble TV this year.

Well, suppose Sky will continue to dominate the television. *thumbs up to them

No new movie channels whatsoever? I think these are mostly needed

Well there is a decent selection of "free" movie channels on Dsat and add to them the main terrestrials and shorter pay and dvd windows it has never been better.

It's not practical to expect a dedicated movie channel from any of the big players as they would simply be duplicating what is shown on their existing channels plus some catalogue stuff. Ultimately DTT has limited and expensive capacity and advertising revenues are in the dump which leaves PAY telly via VM and SKY.

Virgin customers have access to picture box which is £5 per month and shows around 28 movies per month (most in HD) they are updated weekly. And can be watched anytime on demand. That gives sky movies a run for their money.

Virgin have already stated that they have no interest in owning premium conent such as movie channels or sports as its not economically viable.

What's the point of launching movie channels? Apart from the rights issue which sky have locked down anyway, VM already have a fantastic range of VOD movies which kicks 'old fashioned' linear channels into touch.

I think movies lend themselves to VOD perfectly, why wait for Sky to tell when to watch your movie??

I wouldnt watch them

If virgin did launch New movie and music channels, I wouldn't watch them,
Why should I when I can watch music on demand, and listen to the track I want to listen to rather than watch loads of tracks i don't want to listen to, in the of chance the channel might play the track i want to listen too.
I think i have confused my self there, so if I have confused you, im SORRY!

No as sky movies are premium content they are not included in the XL pack.

There are the free ones like movies 24 (dross), True movies (crap) and film4 though.

As stated above though you can add picture box for a fiver a month and pick what you want to watch rather than waiting for sky movies to show somthing that you actually like.

Too true they are in a dire state at the moment! They can't even fund the channels they already have!

Especially when they expect to get them at a discount from BSkyB following the pay tv consultation.

Strange as VM calm BSkyB have VOD locked down... one of the main reasons for trying to get BSkyB channels at a discount...

Virgin have never stated this, they have stated that BSKYB have restricted access to their own content on V0D.

They have also claimed that they have locked down HD (true as they part financed a lot of HD channels in return for exclusivity).

They have also claimed that BSKYB have dominated sports.

But the statement that you have made is to my knowledge incorrect.
