STV brings back Taggart 2010

Stv is to bring back Taggart whether ITV is involved or not. They are also still going ahead with their £35m action against ITV.

Fools and they will either lose the court case or win and then itv may remove all networked programming from STV in retaliation, after all if they won't pay for it then itv will stop suppyling it.

ITV is planning on dropping the 3 francise after DSO anyway and probably encrypting as discussed several times before therefore STV will get no tv shows from ITV anyway. If STV is to survive it will have to rely less on ITV and deliver more content themselves either by making thair own content or buying in from various other sources just like any other tv station anywhere in the world. STV already show Corrie, emmerdale, Harry Hill, BGT and X factor if ITV remove the content they will lose a hell of a lot of money. Recent independent reports show 68% of people already support STVs opt outs in Scotland if ITV remove all remaining content then the % will rise in support of STV.

That VOD comment is ludicrous.

They object to it being shown across scotland cos it says itv1 instead of stv. I know then. Lets stop making it available to anyone living in scotland unless stv want to pay to have a whole new set of programs archived and on the server just for people in scotland with the stv logo. They're not careful thats the sort of thing that could happen.

They're starting to act really childish in this now and certainly not thinking about the customer.
Most of us would be much happier with no log in the corner i doubt anyone pays much attention anyway its just a graphic you got used to cos you had to.

I agree in part with what you are saying I have said in many threads that both ITV and STV are both acting childish.

ITV withholding money from STV
STV dropping programmes

and so on and so on

I wrote a longer list somewhere else but can't find it now. ITV started this years ago by witholding money to STV and now STV are fighting back this has been going on for many years but it is this past year when it affects the viewer. ITV and STV could have sorted this out years but did not. STV have no option but to break away from ITV now for many reason which I have stated in other posts and in this thread earlier.

No tv company should ever rely on another it has worked in the past but it is not practical in this day and age. The ITV empire is crumbling fast and ITV needs STV a lot more than the other way around. STV has little and is working it's way up the ladder as ITV who had it all is now falling. STV, UTV and now Channel (who have taken legal action to investigate ITV plc over recent errors that channel tv have been given the full blame of)are all fed up with ITVs attitude to it's regions. No one want's to take charge of ITV unless they have a huge salery to fall back on if ITV falls. ITV is a joke here and abroad. STV are right to go it alone and were right to axe ITV programmes even ITV have no faith in them judging by the amount of high rating shows they have dropped recently.

I think STV should really have fought harder to prevent the merged Carlton and Granada company calling themselves ITV Plc. I think they settled out of court on the naming rights. Then the ITV name could be used and proceeds shared proportionally across the Channel 3 licensees.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what happens with Taggart. If the network don't pick it up then it could do well on Alibi perhaps?

It seems that Taggart does well abroad, raking in much needed revenue for STV. This from today's Scotsman newspaper...

Quote:
Based in Glasgow's Maryhill area, the popular show, synonymous with the catchphrase "There's been a murder", now has an international following and is translated into many languages. including German, French and Japanese.

STV might even be able to cover the production costs with assistance from a continental partner instead of ITV. Perhaps Taggart's next case will take the Maryhill Polis to the streets of Berlin or Paris

Correct

This is the real issue of branding. The ITV name should have been reserved for the network, and the merged company should never have been allowed to use the name.

I'm 100% in support of STV not wanting the ITV name on their screen as it no longer feels like an ITV network anymore ... go to ITV.com and i'd expect it to be a website for the ITV network ... but of course, it isn't!!

I mean, read this page, and tell me it makes sense ....

There is a possibilty that STV's partner for Taggart could be the BBC.
They already have a facilities/production agreement.

In fact, it COULD be shown on BBC 1

I don't think Taggart would end up on the BBC after all Taggart if it come's back is to provide drama for STV with possible world sales. UKTV show a lot of ITV drama and I am sure they would welcome helping finance Taggart if the product got it's second viewing exclusive on one of their channels. Taggart is hugely popular in Australia, New Zealand and many European countries. Australia always welcome's the chance to work in the uk and have done many projects both with the BBC and ITV over the years. Australia and the UK have the largest and longest relationship in television. STV have a good product in Taggart and many door's are open for them to continue. STV have already done deals within Australia in the past and recently got terrestrial rights for Underbelly from channel nine which I have been assured it will be screened uncut. It will be good to see STV taking control of it's programming and to see Taggart return.

Taggart is tired and interminably dull.

Hope ITV let it go.
