Got new HD EPG today!
And I HATE it!!
I've been looking forward to it for ages, checking when it will be released for my box (Samsung - I think), and now it's here, I hate it. For the same reasons everyone else probably hates it - sluggish, tiny little area for channels, it's about half the size of the old one, all for the sake of pic-in-pic. Anyway, my main gripe, and the one I am really going to have to do something about is this : I always turn the front panel indicator off. How anyone can sit watching TV with a great big neon blue circle spinning round in the corner of their eyes is beyond me. Since the new EPG, however, something very annoying is happening. Whenever I start a program recorded in my planner, or pause live TV and resume it later, the blue neon front panel starts spinning round and round!! In my settings it is turned to OFF. But despite this, it still keeps coming on every time I start a recorded program. To fix it, I have to go back to my settings, and even though it's set to OFF, I have to scroll down and hit the green button to SAVE settings. This turns it off, but only till the next time I start a new program. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!! This is going to drive me to distraction... I will end up taking my HD box apart and ripping out the blue LED lights. Anyone!? Thanks! |

Welcome to the dubious pleasures of the new EPG. This is a known bug. One of the few Sky will actually admit to. There is no cure as yet.
Here is my very low tech but effective solution that I did last April shortly before Sky forced this software on my Thomson. |

Still - it's another stupid bug from this badly written and poorly thought out EPG. I'm just hoping that an update will appear early in the new year. I'm hoping that maybe once all boxes are running it they can fix the issues. |

Its taken all these years for them to rewrite the EPG and this was the best they could come up with? The first thing I did was turn off the mini TV as all that does is take up space. I like the fact that your favourites are actually in a list and not just on the blue button. BUt why still only 50 favourites? Why are you unable to sort the channels in an order that you want. In an old house I used to be with NTL (yes a long time ago) the box was rubbish and slow but the most basic thing you could do was order the channels how you wanted. I amazes you still can't do this with SKY.
You can't even delete channels off which i can with my Humax PVR. Sky missed the chance to redesign this to something really special instead they have managed a few good new ideas badly executed with a very poor display and buggy to boot |

My uncle summed it up "it looks like the freeview box in my bedroom that cost £19".

It looks very rough indeed. And so many more button presses, or guessing the short cuts with the number buttons.
So glad i got the Media portal PC up and running when I did. |

what makes me laugh is everyone saw the pics and it was also available on anytime to view and everyone said "i cant wait to have it" and littered the forum and others with pointless "why haven't i got it yet" threads for months and now everyone that has it hates it

I hate the new EPG you should have the choice between the old EPG or the new but as always with Sky you have to accept it.

The new EPG ruins the Sky experience.
It's slow, poorly designed and full of bugs. The standard has dropped to the equivalent of freeview's EPG |

I think it's a big improvement and I have had no problems with it. (Just posting for a bit of balance)

I have 2 HD boxes one a Thomson with the new EPG and a Samsung with the old EPG and I think the new EPG is much better than the old one, I love it and can't wait to get it on the Samsung.

The Sky EPG is more refined (it has its bugs) and looks a damn sight better than something Freeview or Freesat could come up with. If Sky had delayed the rollout further, it would have only caused people to start moaning that they want the EPG so give it time and you will get one that has very few bugs. Nothing's perfect. |

Despite my dislike of a couple of the new features on the Sky HD EPG I have to agree with Mystic Eddy....I've never seen a Freeview or Freesat EPG that comes close to ease of use or decent looks. My Sony's freeview guide is ok but still a bit basic compared to Sky's. However I hate the blue lights bug and sound on EPG when the miniTV is off and the totally schizoprenic nature of the Favourites blue button... clearly the software designers were high on acid when they sketched that little beauty on the drawing board. My dead pet frog could have done better, I hope you designers are reading this! |

I love the new EPG, it's faster, clearer and allows us to see the synopsis without being on the channel. I am sure that any bugs will be fixed in future updates. I would suggest that you put some black tape over the neon display light until this happens.
I think that on the whole this new software is a massive leap forward. |

Maybe on your box, but not slow on mine and is easy to navigate through. Also the Mini TV is an added benefit especially with the Radio stations.
