Heart north wales and the future real radio north wales

So if and when real radio comes to the north wales region will Heart suffer? Just looking at Real northwest's playlist and they seem more or less the same as Heart wrexham

Surely they both stations would be fighting head on playing the music format in the area? Cant be good for either station, could it be possible Heart might become Marcher again on the Hit music format?

No.

Even if they did decide to flip the format again (about as likely as me sleeping on the ceiling of my bedroom), I doubt they'd go with the Marcher name. It's pretty meaningless and no longer relevant to the area.

Marcher/MFM meant more to Wrexham and the surrounding area than 'Heart'. Ive tried listening to heart to give it a 'chance', but its so..meh... bland.. theres nothing there. Beacon for example have funky jingles, better music ,its lively, upbeat.

So now we'll have 2 stations playing the same music , i cant wait

There actually listeners in North wales who want to hear something other than the heart play list on 2 stations.

True enough, but Radio City covers the Heart 103.4 area as well. It's in their license.

The biggest load of crap I have ever heard!!!
The area is known as the Welsh Marches, and has been known as that for centuries. It hasn't stopped being called that all of a sudden. Therefore the name "Marcher" still has relevance to the area.

Not all of it it doesn't.

Radio City only officially covers the north of Heart 103.4's area

Heart 103.4 has a very different coverage area.

I can bet you that the majority of the audience neither know, nor care what "Marcher" refers to.

Marcher is not relevant because the station is not just a Welsh station. It covers Chester and parts of Shropshire. It's two thirds English

I don't think Real and Heart are particularly similar musically, even though they're both AC formats.

Heart's extremely focused and female-leaning with pretty tight rotations, whereas Real is broader with more male-appeal tunes and looser rotations (apart from its A list which turns over faster than Heart's).

You could say that Heart is reach-driven and Real is more about hours. They each offer something different even though they might have perhaps 100 common songs in rotation.

Moreover, Heart plays some '70s classics but Real doesn't touch anything pre-1980.

The audience to the station now probably don't know what planet they are on never mind what the area is known as
