Sky+ HD install question

Hi, I've recently taken advantage of the Sky+ HD offer going atm as I already had Sky Movies and Multiroom and it is to be installed in 2-4 weeks.

Anyway, a number of you have said when they install Sky+ HD they replace both the wires and the dish. What I was wondering is will they replace the wiring to the other 2 boxes too? (If so it sounds like a long job) or just the wires leading to the Sky+ HD box?

TBH I'm quite happy for them to leave the current setup alone.

Also as I've selected a box upgrade rather than taking out a forth box I was wondering if I could ask them to move the box that they are replacing with Sky+ HD downstaires so it could be used to access the FTA channels.

Thanks.

I am sure you will get different answers from others but, in my case, they just un-hooked the old sky+ and attached the HD box. No change to dish or cables.

The engineer wont move the box unless you asked for it to be moved during the HD installation.. or he might if you ask him but usually if its not on the list they wont.

Anyway, the LNB on the dish needs changed for HD but the wiring put in for sky+ should be ok for HD.

just had sky hd fitted 10 minutes ago - engineer didn't go anywhere near the dish.

wanted the box moving about another 6 feet from where it is now onto the other wall, he said..."normally, if you want the box moving then the customer has to provide & pay for any extra connectors "- took him 20 minutes to find the right extensions in the back of his van. put the links in attatched to the old cable and that was it.

picture quality though is everything i'd hope it would be although pause/record/rewind functions are not yet working. Shrek looks brilliant..!!

When we had ours installed last month, got a new dish, a new LNB but the wiring from dish to where the sky plus box was was left alone. New wiring was needed to our 1st multiroom location to put the sky plus in and the new wiring to a 2nd multiroom location

anybody know how long it takes before i can use the live pause/record/rewind functions...?

the engineer said next time you put it onto standby mode you'll probably get them - and if more than a few hours then ring sky

Engineer really shouldn't have left without it all working. Live pause is one the things the engineers I've had have checked before completing the job. When our sky plus was installed, live pause didn't work right away and the engineer had to call sky to get them to send a signal out to sort it

You can't do so on an upgrade, it's out of the installers control, and (even if everything goes 100% right) can take 4 hours.

eventually i rung the sky tech dept this afternoon and they got all my sky+ functions working by the time the call was finished - i gave them my box brand, box serial number, software version, my viewing card number ( basically all the stuff they already know) - and it was done.
the engineer, i suppose, was in a rush this morning with 10 hd fittings today and 4 of them were multiroom. it's not an easy job at all - especially this time of year when it gets dark by 4.30.
