Mayday Mayday ! Mayday! I inhaled pastel dust !
I thoought I was going to have a heartattack as my chest has been feeling really heavy, but come to think about it I was using pastels all day yesterday.
This is the problem ! It is very uncomfortable; what can I do to get this off my chest ? I did ring the NHS direct, and they said go to A & E, but now I am sure it's the pastels it would be pointless. many thanks in advance. p.s please save me ! ![]()

So you want saving and NHS direct told you to go to A and E but you wont take their advice?
Who exactly do you think can help you? ![]() Sorry to be blunt, but if thats the advice you have been given by qualified professionals I would flipping well take it. |

Yeah, but she said to rule our heart problems etc.
I am sure it's the pastel dust getting on my chest, therefore it would be a waste of time straping down there. |

Have you ever heard of 'co-incidences'?
I was just wondering because you are making a heck of an assumption that your chest pain is caused by the pastel dust. It could be that you really are having problems and it is just co-incidental that is came the day after using the pastels. As someone who has suffered a heart attack, and lost a brother to one aged 29, I will reiterate the advice of the British Heart Foundation (and indeed doctors, NHS direct etc.)... If you have chest pains that persist for more than ten minutes GO TO THE HOSPITAL. Don't self diagnose with something so potentially harmful. |

Just go to A&E! It's better to be safe than sorry. The worst outcome is that you end up wasting 6 hours of your life, only to find out you're fine.

Cobbba - have you ever been diagnosed with Asthma?
I have asthma, but not in the way some people have quite serious attacks where they can't breathe at all, it tends to be brought on by dust etc and does make me feel very "heavy" in the chest. Coughing stuff up helps a bit, but you may need some inhalers or something of that ilk to help. Given that you have been in close contact with dust in the last 24 hours, I wouldn't rule this out as a possibility. Get thee to the out of hours clinic today or your own GP on monday and have a chat with them. This is a general advice forum, and none of us are medical professionals. We can only surmise what is going on and your own GP is MUCH better placed to advise you. You could, in the short term, try turning on the shower, or running a very hot bath and sitting in the steam from it for half an hour. If your chest is feeling a little dried out because of the dust, this may help. |

I would have thought that fresh air may help.
I'm sure you've done a google on this? If you are concerned, next time wear a dust mask or use oil based pastels which don't have an inhalation risk. There are genuine concerns with pastel use, but I would have thought that it was in long term, rather than casual, use. Quote:

We're not trained. People on here and going to, naturally, err on the side of caution and we're definitley not going to go against what NHS direct said to you.

Well, you are either a troll posting fake threads or an idiot for not taking up the NHS directs advice. You decide. |

OP if this is your idea of a joke then you can F*** off.
If it is not, and you really are 'suffering' but will not go to the hospital then you deserve whatever comes your way. I am inclined to think this is just a wind up now though. Maybe you should try filling your life with something worthwhile and meaningful then you won't feel the need to come online and behave like a sniggering little child. |
