So, Sky phoned up my mother in law...

...and offered her a free upgrade from a +box to a HD+ box. No strings, no catches, no subs, apparently.

Now, my MIL can be a bit "slow on the uptake" so may have misunderstood the Ts&Cs but is there any such offer floating around? I can only find free upgrades if you take out a years subs to SkyMoviesHD: http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skyco.../skyhd/pricing

Anyone know?

I can't see why they would do this. It may have been a "free box" but conditional on extra subs, like £10pcm for the HD pack.

Maybe they offered her a loyalty package. In that case you wouldn't see the same deal advertised to customers generally because it's just their way of retaining people who've been with them for a while.

Plenty of commission based no Sky employed salesmen about.

Best to ring sky and confirm what package your mum is on and its implications.

I'd advise you to upgrade your mother-in-law.

OK, thanks for all the suggestions (even the last one from "ffawkes" - believe me, I've tried ). I'll tell her to ring Sky direct and ask them to confirm the deal.

TBH,when Sky offer you anything, you need to accept or decline at that moment

Trying to find the person who offered the deal initially is neigh on impossible

If you ring them, they will tell you it was their outbound team who called you,but they seem to work in the twilight zone and don't take incoming calls.

Good luck
