Blackberrys in soaps - Soaps

2009 has been a huge year for blackberries 95% of my friends and people in my school have one.
They are in fashion so much at the moment so why is that not reflected in soaps especially with the kids

I think ian has one and thats the only person, surely Jack.. would have one

Tony in Corrie has one. I think that the writers think that only business people own them.

As a more serious answer to your question I would have thought that it has a lot to do with product placement rules. The other day when Lucy spent £250 on a new phone that was quickly stolen I expected it to be an iphone but it looked nothing like it, and then I remembered that the BBC aren't allowed to use product placement and this would probably be in breach of that rule. Until recently ITV couldn't either but I think they can now so expect the most unlikely of characters to soon be using blackberries, iphones, laptops etc

I remember when mobile phones got introduced to neighbours and they all thought they were for yuppies

I have also noticed that everyone in Ramsey Street seems to own an Apple Mac Book Pro laptop and the Apple logo is always displayed nice and clearly on screen (although I suspect that they all share the same laptop really

Tonys is a Nokia, i know that cause its the exact same phone my dad has. Its very simular to a blackberry though, same look and size.

Oh I'm not accusing you of being untrue or anything it's just it said in some spoilers or an interview that Roy tries to ring an ambulance of Tony's Blackberry and doesn't understand how to use it but eventually gets through, or something like that and I thought I'd heard it mentioned in Corrie on occasion but obviously not unless there at fault.

Okay I got this from DS's interview with David Neilson talking about Tony and his heart attack:

"He proceeds to phone the ambulance with difficulty because it's on his Blackberry and Roy can't operate that very well! He does it and gives him half an aspirin - fortunately Roy has first aid qualifications - and waits for the ambulance because there's no-one else around. Maria is away in Cyprus so Roy ends up going to the hospital with him, this man he barely knows, because he's close to death and Tony begs Roy to stay with him.

Yeah like one for business and one for home like my Uncle, he's got a Blackberry for work and well a Blackberry for home but same principle.

Couldn't it just be that the actor being interviewed didn't really know the difference between the phone used and a blackberry?

I'm sure Elle Robinson has a Blackberry on Neighbours too.

How could you accuse David Neilson of not knowing something!!!

I think it would've been explained to him that it was a Blackberry if it was a Blackberry and considering Blackberry's have a little thing on them that say Blackberry I think he'd know it was a Blackberry.

Perhaps the make of the phone wasn't really his main concern, he saw the qwerty keypad and just assumed Blackberry without really caring. Like people calling MP3 players, iPods even when they aren't.
