The Vampire Diaries - (US Pace) No Spoilers - Cult

I can't believe there isn't a proper thread for this show! Anyway, thought I'd start one. Usual rules apply. No spoliers for unaired episodes, but feel free to discuss anything once the episode has aired.

How great is this show turning out!! When it started I kinda felt like it was just going to be sort of Twilight for TV, but its totally turning into an excellent show and certainly darker (teenage drinking, drugs) than Twilight. Almost want to read the books to find out where the story is going but don't want to spoil if for myself. Was totally not expecting the whole Vicky thing last week either .. actually quite gutted as I loved her and Jeremy together and this week was great too, loved the Lexi character .. god I hate Damon! (which of course is the idea).

yeh i noticed that there wasn't a thread for this. I only started watching this a few days ago. Needed a new fix after True Blood finished!!

I've only watched four episodes so far i think but am loving it. Yes you could argue that it is a bit samey to Twilight or whatever but apparantly Vamp Diaries was written first so this should clearly be better. I think it's still finding it's feet as it's the first season but i hope CW give it another series. Any news on that?

The show is not really that much like the books. They have changed a lot including the main character Elena from Blonde to brunette. Also other characters are different too. I won't give anything away though but it's worth a read. There are still 2 more new ones yet to come out.

I have noticed that they try so hard not to be like Twilight: The TV Series that they end up being quite like it! I did laugh when Damon was reading the Twilight book and saying Vampires aren't like that.

As for renewal for a 2nd season, I'd say that's a cert as it rates very highly for the CW.

This show has surpassed all my expectations to be honest..
I love it so much..Between Supernatural and this I can't wait to get up on a Friday morning...

This week was a great episode...Damon is fantastic but Its a real pity he killed Lexie..I liked her...but i like his 'diabolical plan' so long as it doesn't end up with him killing off Stefan...

I love this show, it definately exceeds my expectations.
Did anyone else feel that they really hated Damon when he killed Lexi? (first time I felt like that)
Really liked her character especially as it made stefan smile! He looked really happy and sort of free, it was a completely different perspective of him..and Damon ruined it again!!

Really love this show. Better than Twilight. So different from twilight actually. One of the best new shows on tele along with Glee and Flashforward.

Totally, I was watching the episode thinking "ooh, I hope they keep Lexi as a regular or that she comes back later in the season" .. but also felt like that with Vicky. Loved her and Jeremy together .. but I kinda like that the show is willing to sacrafic characters, makes the show feel a little more edgy .. you never know what Damon is going to do.

Episode 4 is where I got officially hooked (when we find out the town council and the police know about the Vamps) and its been just getting better each week. As for a 2nd season, its a 100% cert at this point. Its officially the CW's No1 show (in both the ratings and the main demo) way ahead of anything else.

I agree, that the the 'diabolical' plan is involved with Stefan somehow dying (which hopefully will never happen) but to also involve Elena. As in making her hate stefan so much that she feels she has to kill him..or choose who dies between the 2 brothers and she chooses damon..something like that.

wonder if Damon will turn out to be an Eric type character from True Blood. The one you love to hate....could make for an interesting series. I'm only on episode 4 though...Damon could get a whole lot more evil...and i shouldn't be reading this thread until i am up to date so i had a sneaky look at what's to come....

I wasn't sure about this at first, but as said it really does come into its own with Episode Four, when it becomes more of a town/ensemble show and less focused on the romance. Yes it's a teen vampire show, with shades of Twilight and True Blood, but it's good at what it does.

I absolutely love to hate Ian Somerhalder's Damon. My only concern is that the character is so unredeemingly bad that you wonder why Stefan doesn't just kill him. He can't be this bad and still live, season after season, surely?

I haven't read the books so have no idea what happens in them - but in the show, my husband speculates that maybe Stefan turned Damon (rather than Katherine) and perhaps that's why Stefan now tolerates him/Damon holds a grudge, but who knows.

At first I thought Elena would be an annoying Joey Potter/Lana Lang character, but actually she's quite sensible and a good friend.

Was really starting to like Damon, but what he did too lexi has put me off him again. she was hot and could have been a great asset to the show

. Looks like the witchy girl is gonna have a big part to play too.

As for D's plan, hes worming his way to this council's circle so he can eliminate them.

This show has done that Twilight failed to do. I found Twilight was too scared to dare it's self in a way. And when they did, it produced one of the worst books i have ever read named Breaking dawn.

The Vampire diaries isn't your typical teenage supernatural drama. The acting is suprisingly good and it isn't predictable.

I dont believe Damons plan is ever to kill Stefan he wants to annoy him and make his undead existence miserable, if Stefan were dead an eternity would be quite boring for Damon.

That's true I guess..He's having too much fun torturing him at the moment..

I think maybe that he's trying to push him to the extent where Stefan will have to start feeding off human blood again so he can be strong enough to fight Damon...
I definitely think he had a drink out of Lexie's stash if that final scene was anything to go by..

This makes so much sense! Stefan would hate to feed on human blood but may be forced as he has no choice, making him perhaps lose control/ hurt elena and hate himself. Gosh if true, Damon is sooo evil!!!

The unpredictability of this show in my opinion makes it much better than Twilight could ever be.

Of course, its been no secret and Stefan has said its a few times that one of Damons aim in their Undead lives is to make Stefans life a misery for eternity.

I've been watching since the start and never once got the idea that Damon wanted to kill Stefan....Strange (are we all watching the same show) !!!

The one good thing about the latest show is....Lexi coming in was out of the blue, even though shes gone...just how many other Vampires are out there !!!

it gets better everyweek and has been the best new show this season/fall

sometimes i feel damon would make angelus proud! hes a great character and stefan is very likeable too

i take it stefans anger gave him the extra edge agasint damon? or perhaps damon just wasnt expecting it this time?

loved the lexi killing,i saw it coming but still a great plan

I read these books over a decade ago (so yes, very much before Twilight) and was absolutely addicted to them. Am looking forward to seeing what the series has done for them although I always thought it would be better done as movies - interested all the same.
