Sky Box Office HD

Has this channel always had adverts during boxing events ? I am a bit peeved at paying nearly £15 and having so many adverts, even during the actual fights, which really kills the action, even though it waits for the bell to ring it is still annoying to have it shoot to a 30 second commercial every couple of minutes. Then it has a longer advert break after.

I am sure back in the day of the Tyson fights I used to order they never had adverts. I may be wrong.

But I would of thought a PPV is advert free, as that is what you pay for ? Other than on screen product placement sponsers of course.

So when did Sky start doing this or has it always been the case and I just forgot ?

P.S : Can anyone who has Sky HD and has booked this boxing event let me know what your signal quality is like ? Mine is showing up as 1/4 on the transponder, even when I swap around the leads.

They have been doing this for a while mate. I refuse now to pay £15 for an event when it's interrupted by advertisements.

So this afternoon, I moved the dish over to 19.2 to watch on Das Erste. Yeah, it might be in German but can listen to English commentary on 5 Live. Plus I save £15.

I don't know how Sky get away with so many adverts. I think they have lost me as a future customer too for boxing events, I will probably just listen on 5 Live or find an online streaming version for free. Can't they just wait until the end of the fights before they go to ads, we are paying them on top of our normal subs after all.

I didn't think US PPV's had ads. That's one of the reasons why it's PPV. Your paying for uninterupted coverage.

HBO and SHOtime don't show adverts, only FTV channels.

plus the fact it was the only place to watch it HD, so production costs involved, but I agree why pay £15 and still watch ads, crazyness.

$50 which is shockingly steep, but these days they don't actually have many PPV's. This year has seen Hatton v Pacquaio, Mayweather v Marquez and Cotto v Pacquaio next week.

They don't have any adverts at all, not even pop-ups. They tend to show 1-2 non PPV shows a month as well.

but surely the amount of buys would be profitable considering the population of america so that they dont have to show adverts to increase revenue, as apposed to sky who only have the uk and not many people pay for boxing in this country.

PPV Boxing buyrates aren't massive in the states at the moment, Boxing is in a "slump" over there as well as here. But the fact that only the mega fights are PPV in these recession hit days, and that the promotion is huge for these fights (a lot of it due to the excellent 24/7 series) means they probably still make enough money to be considered a "success".

However, last night they had Chad Dawson v Glen Johnson on regular HBO. Stick that on PPV, particularly with next weekends big fight there as well and it would draw pittance.

I had the boxing put on saturday night but didnt have to put in a pin number at all, is this normal?

Just selected the event and it went straight to the fight which I found odd, thought you had to confirm the purchase

No ads at all on Normal HBO or PPV HBO! (or any premium network or PPV)
Sky's boxing PPVs are really a disgrace!
