Getting Sky+

Hi, I have a few questions about Sky+ I'm hoping you guys can answer without me having to go to Sky themselves as no doubt they will bombard me with letters and calls until I sign up!

I'm not interested in getting telephone or broadband from Sky. Can you get Sky+ on its own or do they insist that you get the phone and broadband with it? Would it still be £18.50 a month without those? Is it possible for me to buy a Sky+ box seperately and just get a monthly subscription for the TV depending upon the cost of getting it from Sky with installation?

Any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance

You can get JUST sky+ with the tv on its own.

You do NOT need to get phone line, calls or bband at all.

Whatever TV package you go for, that will be just the price you pay so 18.50 or 48.50 whatever a month.

However, to install the sky+ if you purchase it from Sky. they need an active telephone line in your house no matter who's it is to do the card activation. if you do not have the phone line its an additional one off charge of £25 for the install and thats it.

hope that helps.

How can i get SKY+ free upgrade being an existing customer??

I've been with Sky for nearly 9 years (maybe more), but they still aren't running a nice offer to upgrade to Sky+, i would like a Sky+ box but don't really have the money to afford for it

The silly offers about multroom and movies with an added £40 a month are of no help

It would once you paired the card with the Sky+ box.

You could get put through to cancellations dept and say you're thinking of going to Virgin and see what they offer you.

I got a free Sky+ and installation earlier this year when I came back to Sky (only cancelled about three months earlier).

I've been thinking the very same thing recently.

There's plenty of offers from Sky of a free SkyHD+ box but no deals for non-HD boxes.

What's the contact number for Cancellations?

It was February when I got mine.
It'd be ok if you got the HD box as long as you don't have to sign up to the HD pack.
The number is 08442 414141 and then I think it was option 4 but not 100% sure. Unfortunately they've removed the free phone number that was listed on www.saynoto0870.com.
Their are a couple of geographical numbers listed but I don't know if they work.

I have sky and phoned up about getting Sky+, my Sky is upstairs and I wanted it downstairs.
They said I would get a free box, pay £30 for installation, then an extra £9.75 a month for multi-room, this was on 16th October, they would be in touch with me when they could install it as with the digital change over in my area they were unable to give me a date.

Yesterday I phoned Sky and they have now given me a free HD box which is better than Sky+, again for £30 installation and an extra £9.75 a month for multi-room.
This is so much better for me, engineer is comin next Monday to install. I don't have broadband or phone with Sky.

£30 for Sky HD isnt bad, so its worth giving them a ring.

Anyone got any ideas about how to get upgraded to SKY HD+ without paying the extra £9.75 per month?

Tried ringing Sky.

Not a good experience.

They use an 0844 number so I was getting charged by the minute to be stuck in a queuing system and then, when I eventually got through to someone, I was told I was going to be transferred to a different team and put back into a queue.

After 10 minutes in this second queue, I hung up.

No way if you want a highly subsidised box you have to repay that subsidy with the HD sub. If you don't want to pay the HD sub buy your box elsewhere either second hand or at a lot higher price and only have BBC HD, ITV HD, Channel 4HD and Luxe HD.

There was a girl from Sky in our local supermarket yesterday trying to persuade customers to sign up for the HD channels by offering them a free Sky+HD box with half price installation (£30).

I told her I don't have an HDTV so asked how much Sky+ (non-HD) would cost me.

£149 for the box plus £60 installation charge - that's over 200 quid!

Your maths is obviously excellent.

You could of course have taken the free HD box with £30 installation, paid for the HD Pack for a year at £10 per month, then cancelled the HD Pack and still have used the Sky+ HD box as a (better) Sky+ box with access to the free HD channels as well - that would have only cost you £150. (£30 installation, £120 in extra subscription cost). And you'd have had fifteen high definition channels to watch for the first twelve months as well.

No, he wouldn't. Unless he plans on changing his TV within the 12 months and to make use of them properly, he would really have to get a new tv fairly soon.

He'd still have fifteen high def channels to watch - even if he couldn't watch them in high def. And regardless of whether he subscribed to the SD equivalent or not as well.

I understand what your point is but I think that its pointless paying for something that you don't want just because Sky want you to have a HD box.
Yes he can cancel the HD sub after 12 months but Sky will be hoping that he gets a HD tv and they can make more money

He could get a free Sky+ box with £30 installation if he was a new customer, so why not an existing customer?

His best option IMHO is to phone their cancellation dept and see if he gets offered one that way although I suspect they'll push the HD box as a CS agent told me last night that thats where the main deals are before Christmas.

I don't have a HD ready tv although I do plan on getting one next year so I wouldn't consider getting a HD box untill then and not everyone is interested in HD.
