Recaps on UK soaps

Why can't there be recaps on the UK soaps like home and away / neighbours.

You didn't used to need them because there was only 2 / 3 episodes a week but now Corrie, Emmerdale in particular are churning out a lot of episodes. If I miss an episode of EE at the moment its hard catching up.

Can't there be a "previously on the square" for about a minute or two at startup.

What are we thinking of the new neighbours recaps?

This wasn't quite what I had in mind, but can you imagine them doing this at the start of EE, talking about Lucas / owen and the mitchells and all the double crossing with Archie / Janene / Jack / Ryan / Sam etc etc

I've never really seen the point in recaps at the start of every episode. Sometimes it's just what happened the day before, I doubt anyone would have forgotten what happened in the last episode or if they are new viewers it is unlikely that are going to be able to pick up the entire storyline in a few short scenes.

I also think it would come across a bit cheap and tacky, you can overproduce something. Just look at Neighbours new style, you get a "coming up this week" on Monday, a recap before every episode and at the end of the episode "coming up tomorrow" which becomes overkill.

I'm not keen on having recaps in soaps but it works in Neighbours for some reason

So what if you miss an episode? The recap would be most helpful!
