Singers' problems with lower pitch

It seems to be a common trend for contestants to start their songs in a low pitch and badly mess up (out of tune, weak and warbly), and then recover somewhat as they hit the higher/louder notes later on. As a singer, is it particularly difficult to get those low notes right?

If it's at the beginning of the songs all the time, maybe it's the sound? If Danyl had a problem the other week hearing the music, perhaps they are all having a similar problem trying to hear over the noisy audience so it's making things difficult.

Most of them aren`t true singers and so get exposed at certain notes.

Leona Lewis is the classic example of a singer who is only comfortable with certain notes.

We have a dumbed down society being crooned by dumbed down singers.

It`s all we deserve when we start taking the like of Simon Cowell seriously.

Quite a few of them seem to have a problem singing softly and in a lower register, only getting into their stride when they can really get the air moving and belt it out. That, I suspect, shows their inexperience and lack of training. They have vocal coaches, but they can only achieve so much in the time available to them. The exception is Joe, which is surprising as he is the highest pitched of all the male singers. I reckon that makes him the most accomplished musician of the lot. He attracted a lukewarm comment or two last night, which I thought was unfair. I think that they are now scratching about for something to say about him because they still haven't been able to stretch him.

Joe is very good and I don't get why the judges keep talking about "musical theatre" as if it was a fate worse then death. You need a seriously good voice for that sort of thing and Joe would be perfect.

I've noticed that as well, if most of the competitors have such small ranges that they are unable to sing any standard song without problems in the lower register it knocks Simon's claim that it's a singing competition on the head!

It can be compensated for with good mic technique, which none of them seem to have either.

EDIT: Although I actually think on this issue that it's once again more a case of shitty X Factor sound production then anything else. Clearly, some of them are a little weak in the lower register.

Jamie 's opening was a shocker as it was pitched far too low to enable him to hit the high notes in the chorus.

The problem for Joe, even if he went down the 'Musical Theatre ' route is his stature.
There aren't many leading ladies who are shorter than him so unless they can dig up Elaine Page, the best he can hope to do is play The Artful Dodger for the rest of his life.
