College

Wondering what to say or do here..

I got thrown out of college (well not really but yeah..lol because they basically gave me a week to tell my family they were getting rid of me and next monday i signed the form to withdraw)

But..i went to see the careers adviser i see and she told me they shouldn't have thrown me out. And wanted me to phone him up and see if he won't chnage his mind :| well i don;t think he would somehow!

The reason i got thrown out was bascially (what he told me) because i'd dropped 2 of the 4 subjects i was doing as i didn't enjoy them, but was still attending for the other 2. Which should surely have meant they'd move me onto part-time and stop my funding? okay they stopped my funding but refused to move me off full time.

I think they wanted me to use that week to get someone to give them a row basically for throwing me out bt i didn't bother..well, it seemed pointless. It probably would have been pointless. I told them about my anxiety issue which they overlooked completeyl, okay a doctor can't say i suffer from it but i feel that way. I was bullied fro 5 years at schoolw hcich they didn't know, and that was a real good chnace to get my grades, now it's all been thrown down the pan.

Tbh they thought i was a hindrance, all i wanted was for them to ok me to do part-time, but would they? no. I asked my actual class tutor to change it too but she was obviously told not to bother and sent me to the guy that threw me out.

I felt so smug walking out of there on the last day. I'm soo not going back to that cxnt. Did he know how hard it was for me to get in?
just to throw me out coz i didn't want to do all the subjects and had confidence/anxiety problems. Pah
i worked so hard, and i felt so proud of myself, now i've thrown that all away. which i think was no fault of my own tbqh.

What i'm basically saying/asking is do you think i was really in the wrong there or like..should i even phone him because i don't want to and am not going to just because she told me to. I'll just do open learning next year and pay for the amount of highers i want to take.

And of course they wouldn't be bothered at all if i was paying for what i was doing. Oh no!

Go back to college when you're ready and can handle the course.
I dropped out of a college course when I left school at 16, I was doing Travel and Tourism but quit 6 months in, mainly because I just couldn't be doing with it.
I recently went back on a course to study CAD and have just finished, this time around I was more motivated and dedicated to learning and sailed through the course managing to gain an extra couple of qualification whilst there.

I don't quite understand why you felt so smug though when walking out.

Who is "he" that throw you out? Does "he" actually have the power to do so?

When you were doing the 4 subjects did you speak to anyone in the college about dropping to 2 and going part-time before actually dropping them apart from a class tutor?

By college are you talking about some sort of 6th form or are you talking about FE.
If you really want to keep at the two subjects that you were doing and there must have been a reason why you turned up for those then yes make the phone call or if you feel that its going to be too hard for you to make the call cos of the way you left things with him then how about going bck to this careers adviser and asking if they'll make the call for you saying that you'd like to be given the chance to keep studying the two subjects that you've been attending and be classed as a prt time student.
As maybe apparent I'm very out of date as to how college systems work but I would have thought that as long as you weren't actually causing them problems getting into trouble etc then it would be better if nothing else for their stats to have you there as a prt time student as opposed to a drop out at the end of the year. And of course you might even get some good exam results.
If you don't make the phone call or get anyone else to do it for you what would you do with yourself. A job isn't very likely is it, far too many people looking for those so better to be at college than hanging around doing nothing.

I had the same problem.

I didn't like one of my subjects but still attended.
Spoke to my tutor and he said it's tough - I have to pass all courses to pass the course?
Didn't understand it myself but I stopped attending that lesson and he kept going on at me about needing to stay behind everyday to catch up... In the end, I quit the course. I have no interest in that subject and would of just liked to carry on with the others.

If you're unhappy and/or can't deal with a course then I think you're right to walk out - you spoke to your tutor about it and he didn't do anything about it. What more can you do? You asked if you could do just the two subjects and he's refused to let you which, in my opinion, is out of order but I don't really think you can do much more. Try and persuade your advisor to talk to him for you.

Good luck!
