Stv's defiance - Paying dividends ?

STV have been showing some Bond films at 9pm on Sunday, last week was Diamonds are forever , today its Live and let die, whilst the Other ITV's are making us suffer 'Doc Martin'.

Also, whilst ITV England/Wales and NI are showing a different Bond film this afternoon, Scottish are showing a Thunderbirds Movie.

I say YES to this extra viewing choice. The bond films on a Sunday evening are especially welcome.

What is the Scottish angle on Thunderbirds as I thought STV's policy was to drop network programmes in favour of those of particular interest to Scotland.

I'm afraid I do not welcome 'another chance to see' films made in the 60's, 70's and 80's when the rest of the UK is getting to see a drama which we Scots were able to watch up until this year. We saw series 1 and 2 of Doc Martin - why not series 3?

I think the viewing figures for the Bond films on a Sunday - particularly the older ones - have been poor compared to the rest of the UK who had a new version of Wuthering Heights for example....

Bond films are good but they have been showen to offen in the past and need to be given a rest for a few years.

I had to laugh when Martin Clunes said on R5 the other week they could really wind up STV by re-locating Doc Martin to Scotland

Haven't the Bond films been a big flop in the 9pm Sunday slot? I know STV have admitted they have made mistakes in this slot. Seems daft showing 40 year old films at peak time on Sunday. Splitting them with the news so they don't finish till after 11.30 is suicidal too as many people like to go to bed early on a Sunday.

The Sunday night films HAVE been poorly received.

Two other terrestrial channels are showing films, starting at 9pm - and NOT split round the news - tonight.

Die Hard 4 on Ch4 and Miss Congeniality on Ch5.

One made in 2007, one in 2000.

What chance does a frequently screened film from a bygone age have against these offerings?

I agree with you. Bond was good in its day but had been played out to offen on STV. Also some dont like the idea of a film being split between the news.
I bet some will watch CH4 or Five reather than watch Bond on STV.

i cant stand bond movies! if i wanted to watch old movies id watch them on a movie channel!! i think its disgraceful that stv opted to drop 'the bill' and now they are not showing the 5 part drama 'collision'. i for one have changed my channel planner to the 'english itv' so i can watch decent up to date programs!!rest of the country is getting to see!!

As a woman, I do find the sexist attitudes in the Bond films pathetic when they are shown these days - Pussy Galore anyone?

They are like Austin Powers without the humour.

The more recent ones are ok as this type of stereotyping has been done away with, but really, the films from the 60's and 70's are cringe makingly bad when it comes to the 'token' female characters.....

Even the Sunday Post is recommending Collision to its viewers today - and ends the article on how Sky/Freesat viewers can find it.

Just on a slight tangent: I was amazed to find that STV gave up "proper" programming last night as soon as it hit midnight to go straight to casino-type programming guff.

I'd possibly expect that at 3 or 4 am, but the stroke of midnight on a saturday and they'd effectively switched off the schedule and switched on the "fleece viewers with cheap crap" filler.

Although to be fair I don't know what was on the rest of ITV - but I was still quite surprised.
