Michelle Forbes appreciation thread

Having just finished watching the second series of True Blood, I feel the DS Cult page needs some space for people, starting with me, to praise, gush about, and generally extol the virtues of my personal choice for the title "Queen of Cult".

As Lynn Kresge in 24 she was a paragon of virtue and truth in a generally dirty White House, but cruelly was last seen stretchered off with severe head injuries.

As Admiral Helena Cain in BSG she kicked some major cylon arse, as well as stirring up the fleet with her own personal brand of no-nonsense leadership, before meeting a sticky end at the hands of a vengeful Six. Despite only featuring in three episodes (Plus Razor) she's one of the stand-out characters of BSG (IMHO), and that's really saying something considering how strong the ensemble was on that show.

And then there's True Blood, I won't say too much as she mainly features in series 2 (which hasn't aired here yet has it?), but I feel fairly comfortable saying she's a brilliant baddie and as watchable as ever, would reccomend it to anyone.

That's three pretty significant cult characters, with significant roles in superb series', and I've not even got on to Star Trek:TNG and Homicide:Life on the Street (not seen her bits in TNG, never watched H:LOTS), Lost (breifly), Prison Break, Alias (yes I've checked her Wikipedia).......

If Alan Dale is the king, and Željko Ivanek the crown prince of cult, that makes Michelle Forbes the queen every day of the week.

Discuss.......

Not forgetting Ensign Ro Laren. One of the more interesting characters in TNG. In a show that was generally black & white on most issues and with most characters, she was in more of a grey area. DS9 did a lot more grey area type characters but TNG had so few.
I remember being quite shocked that a regular character on the show could just betray Star Fleet and join the Maquis. And Picard was quite hurt as he had tried to mentor her.
Maybe I was a bit more naive in my younger days

Oh, and she's also in the excellent In Treatment. More people should find this great little show.

As I mentioned I've never seen (or don't remember, it was a long time ago) her part of TNG, but it sounds an interesting character arc, and not very typical of TNG which, like much pre-DS9 Star Trek, tended a bit utopian and idealist in it's outlook (too much for me usually) in it's earlier years.

Never heard of In Treatment so may check it out, thanks.

To be fair I don't think overlooked is the right word. I get the feeling she is exactly where she wants to be both in terms of work and exposure.

MF was originally intended to be in DS9. The role of Kira was supposed to be Ro, but MF decided to concentrate on movies instead.

I read that myself this morning, would have made DS9 even better I would have thought!

While I've been all gushy about Forbes, it's clear she's a TV star rather than movie star material, she's too stern looking (and not generically pretty) to ever get any sympathetic roles in Hollywood.

But then crap hollywood popcorn-fodder's loss is quality genre TV's gain I suppose!

And don't forget the brilliant Sonny/Solita-Storyline in Guiding Light from the 80s! Lots of drama for Josh Lewis and Reva...

Shes a very good actress, first time I seen her was in Escape from LA. As for the title of "Queen of Cult", not sure about that one.

I had a big crush on Ro Laren when TNG was first on, and I've enjoyed watching Michelle Forbes in other series since then.

This is the first time I've heard that she was supposed to have the Kira role on DS9. If only... (Actually, I had a bit of a crush on Kira too. It must be something about Bajoran women.)
