Washing machine noisy, bearings ??
My mums hotpoint washing machine is making a really loud noise on spin, its not a shaking noise where the machine moves, it sounds like a plane taking off, more of a high pitched wine
It wasnt spinning for her at all so i took the back of the machine off and the belt had come off. She does tend to overfill the machine with clothes so maybe this had something to do with the belt coming off Anyway i got the belt on after much hard work The question is, what is likely the cause of the incredibly loud noise it makes now on spin Could it be the pulley motor that the belt goes on to? I am quite handy and would be able to replace parts. Any advice appreciated if you are handy in the repair of washing machines or know anyone who is, thanks

Is there a blockage in the filter? that can cause noise too.

If the bearings went wouldn't it make a knocking and rumbling noise because the drum has more movement? This happened to my machine in the summer, awful noise, not a mistakable one either.

It's definitely your bearings that have gone. We had a good old Whilrpool a few years ago where the bearings went.
When it was washing it was fine, but as you described, on building up to the spin it could've been a jet taking off for the racket it made. Got a bloke round, he had a look and said the bearings had gone and that they were replaceable, but a bugger of a job and pretty expensive on the labour side. |

Were the transit bolts removed from the back of the machine before it was installed?

im not sure, i need to take the belt off and then turn the drum by hand to work out if its the drum or not though im not sure how to tell if its the motor. Theres no play in the drum though as in from side to side. The machine is relatively new, well 3 years new

you should be able to feel play in the motor bearings by taking the belt off and moving the motor pulley from side to side and turning to feel for roughness , you mentioned the belt was a real tight fit , it should not be that tight or it could be causing the problems you mention
