repeating songs from previous year
is anyone else a bit bored with the limited song choices this year?
Out of Danyl's 5 songs, 3 of them were performed last year by Danniis' acts. Any Lloyd last night doing one that JLS had previously done.... Surely there must be more songs out there to choose from |

I think they only have a pool of songs they can choose due to copyright restrictions unfortunately.

I think Simon has an incredibly limited knowledge of music and is very set in his ways (there was an article on the Guardian website where Rowetta was saying he kept vetoing her choices because they were a bit too 'out there' (things like Oasis for crying out loud!
)

I can't remember what any of them sung last year so I can't say I'm too bothered. Once the final is done I won't care about any of them anyway.

They have song lists - according to Cheryl last night on Xtra factor - I'm not sure if the judges or producers create them but as Tyjet says some performers may not want their songs performed on the show

I don't know about the X Factor but I know it certainly is a big problem on AI. I remember Tatiana (crazy contestant from this year) saying she couldn't get a song cleared in a day. I know certain artists refuse to let their music be performed as they feel it will devalue their songs. Pink for one. It took a lot of negotiations and a lot of money for the Beatle Catalogue to be released. I also remember Simon going ape a few years ago when someone sang the Stand By Me version Lloyd did. That excerpt of Beautiful Girls cost AI an extra $100k in royalties. I think it depends on who owns the rights to the song. Record companies tend to be more open to clearing songs, whereas individual writers may have their restrictions and a higher price tag. |

As I said on Big Band Week- they should can 'That's Life' 'cos anyone who has sung it has left the competition that week.
