Dermots contract up after this series. Will he be replaced ala Kate Thornton! - The X Factor

Just wondering what everyone thinks.

I still think Kate did a much better job, seemed more tense and the timing more right when she announced who was through and in the bottom 2 each week etc.

No idea. For me though, if they replace Dermot on top of everything else this year, it may just make me find something else to do with my life over these few weeks next year.

I hope not, I think he's good at his job. And when you say it's more tense when Kate did it is utter rubbish because they are queued in by the director.

Kate was much more professional. They are equally likeable, maybe Dermot more so.
I think he will stay but Kate was a much much much better presenter.

Dunno, but I liked Louis putting Dermot in his place last night. Getting quite annoyed at him always sticking up for the poorer performances whenever the judges critisize them - it's their job Dermot!!

I disliked Kate - she seemed too... bland in my opinion. Dermot's OK but you know Simon likes to shake things up every so often so he may end up going after this series.

If they are going to replace him with anyone, I'd hope they'd have Holly do it.

I hope it is true and that Dermot leaves, and Kate comes back, that quip from LW last night to Dermot, left me cold and he didn't know how to deal with it, Kate would have gone over and had a stand up argument with him.

Simon after the last series was said to be pleased with Dermot and he actually got a pay rise whilst costs were being cut.

Dermot is very comfortable presenting what is nearly 3 hours of live TV every week and always looks at ease and does a great job of holding it all together. He comes over a lot more personable than Kate Thornton and has a very nice casual but professional style. Presenting Live TV is not easy. I think Dermon is very good with the contestants, judges and audience at home.

After the way Louis shouted abuse at him last night - I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't wish to renew his contract!!

I was appauled at the way, Louis was shouting at him saying he is "a presenter, not a judge...". Louis must remember the country is watching his behaviour and he did NOT set a good example to many young people watching the programme (I know I sound like an old fart in saying as much - but it's absolutely true). He should know better at his age!!

The only problem with Dermot, dab hand at live TV that he is, is that he's too fast talking and too quippy for the X Factor. It works better on some levels, but it also reduces the drama and tension and the feeling of it all being 'an event'. He is extremely good at the auditions stages though, where his informal approach works perfectly.

Kate was nervous and mostly read from the autocue and didn't adlib too much, and her tension helped make things seem more dramatic, especially when reading the results. She also scrubbed up well and brought a touch of glamour to proceedings with outfits and hair tailored to the week's theme (not saying Dermot isn't pretty too, but his appearance never changes.)

I've got used to Dermot, but I wouldn't say no to Kate's return, but ideally I'd like to see Ryan Seacrest flown over (by 'Ryanair' perhaps?) for the weekends. To me he makes American Idol - he is the perfect mix of a funny character, has the ability to add drama, and brings a dash of glamour.

Ryan was offered the show when Kate was axed. He turned it down. It would be impossible for him to do it. He has 5 jobs already in the States.

Id love it if Ryan would do it, but I doubt he would. Maybe if it were only 1 night then MAYBE but he turned it down before so its never going to happen - especially as its now 2 nights. I really believe they need to get rid of Dermot though - or give him another presenter to work with. A lot of the problem though, is the infinitely cheesy dialogue that he is given - and he never seems to know how to deliver it. Its all a bit desperate and uncomfortable. Plus he has zero chemistry with the judges - he is terrified of Si, in awe of Cheryl, seems bored by Dannii and obviously hates Louis - it just doesnt work. Dermot does a "just about good enough" job of holding it together - hosting is a seriously difficult job and I appreciate that its a skill which few people can do well. I just feel X Factor needs someone with a little bit more wit and charm than Dermy.

Anyway, the reason Dermot was given the job was because Simon wanted a Ryan style host (all the start of the plan to promote the show to America) so I don't think there's much chance of Dermot being replaced. I wouldn't want him to be anyway. He and Dannii are the saving graces of this sorry shambles this year.

I'm hoping Dermot gets Louis' spot on the panel next year and Louis get's stuck with the job of presenting the acts. Then the big D can stick two fingers up to Louis and berate him for only being a presenter.
