Given the amount of quick-fire repeat showings of films on most channels, they could probably all still be on over Christmas anyway.

We don't live in the dark ages any more. You can watch any film you want, whenever you want if you know where to look. Use your computer for something other than complaining about tv scheduling.

Big blockbuster films won't be on ITV over Christmas as the revenue isn't there for them. Thats why Christmas Day / Boxing Day schedules on ITV are a bit half arsed due to that reason... No advertisers. Although the way this country is going, it won't be long before shops open on Christmas Day but thats another thread all together!

Society as a whole is moving away from watching TV on christmas day. This is why although the BBC get the highest ratings they are not particulary high as such.

Maybe an older generation are still into it but most people are not.

Of course, a big reason for the decline are the awful programmes on display and creaky 2yr old films that most people have seen multitudes of times.

ITV don't even bother any more.

That's because the advertisers spend their money in the run up to Christmas - trying to get you to buy things for your relatives and friends.

ITV will put their biggest programmes on in the run up to Christmas to maximize ratings and revenue.

In the past advertisers would advertise bigtime during the run-up to christmas AND on christmas day.

But Christmas day is not solely about TV watching any more, that's why ITV don't make much of an effort.

I think where movies are concerned, I really like ITV1 and Five for their regular dose of movies every weekend, particularly Five which shows 3 or 4 films every Sunday. They shown 'The Wizard of Oz' yesterday for instance which was really good to see again, especially in the run up to Christmas

It's the BBC which are slipping with their movie screenings, particularly BBC Two which only shows movies on a Saturday, Sunday and Friday. They very rarely bother showing any films during the week anymore unfortunately. Not even an afternoon film

I hope all terrestrial channels make more of an effort over Christmas
