CNBC Live TV online - TV license required?

Any CNBC viewers (or online TV viewers) here should be able to help me out on this one:

You know if you get a subscription to watch CNBC TV online (you can do this via the channel's website I think) do you need any sort of TV license to watch? I'm already paying one for my normal TV (getting channels via cable) but would I need to pay any additional license for the online viewing?

Hope you don't mind me asking.

So long as you have a license, it covers as many devices as you want, so long as its the same address

Thanks Bucksman. It would be the same address because of my credit card (which is needed as it's a pay service) and I think you have to use your card billing address.

Why would anyone want to pay for something they can get for free?

Thanks for the links, I'll give those a try. I thought the pay system would be better. Funny that's what my Stats lecturer said to me the other day when talking about getting help for the subject (I'll email you about that story epsom, if you don't mind)

That's not really a defence if you're caught receiving a live TV transmission at an address other than the address the licence is for.

You do need a licence if receiving a TV broadcast irrespective of the method of delivery, but not if you're receiving narrow casts (ie on-demand, such as iPlayer).

I have a licence for normal TV but what I was wonderin would I have to pay an additional one? I'm sure CNBC TV over the net would go down as a narrowcast?

Your TV licence covers you for live broadcasts however they are received and regardless of the number of devices used to receive them. In this context "live" means receiving a programme at the same time as it is transmitted.

So stuff you stream from iPlayer or the like does not count as "live" so does not need a licence.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I should get the thing sorted soon and get that CNBC subscription! There would be a lot more peace and quiet in my house if I could watch CNBC on my laptop!

You only need one licence to cover everything in your household.
Since watching CNBC online is LIVE Broadcast TV you do by law need a licence.

Though TVL have no way of detecting your on-line habits as of yet!! The fools still don't yet know the difference between VOD and Live TV!

My licence for my normal TV should cover it then! I live in Ireland, I don't think that would make much difference though?

The Irish Republic's tv licence may be different to the UK one, as far as what it covers.

I checked it up on the internet and I think it said that you only need one per household regardless of how many devices you have or what devices you have. I saw too that a licence is not required if you're receiving TV through your computer but not with a TV tuner card (ie over the Internet). I just wanted to know anyway to be on the safe side.
