Here's the question for this round:

What format should season four take?

Should it be:-

i) structured as season 1 & 2 were?
ii) "Event TV" as per Children Of The Earth

As with the last round you need to pick which of the four characters listed below you like the least then post your votes on this thread or send them to me via PM. The three with the most votes will be evicted from the game. If you'd like any that aren't evicted to roll forward into the next round all you need to do is type "auto" with your votes & any that have Survived will automatically roll forward into the next round. In the event of a tie-break cumulative votes will be taken into account.

So, it's on with the game then. Time to pick your four least favourite characters from:-

aww, a bit sad about Alan, even though I was going to vote for him soon, but his brief role in Out of Time really touches my soul, especially given my grandmother died of Alzheimer's earlier this year...

old votes:

Emily Holroyd (Heather Craney)
Alice Guppy (Amy Manson)

new votes:

Emma (Olivia Hallinan) - to me she was more in the background than the other two out of timers
Alex Hopkins (Julian Lewis Jones) - I think it was a lovely cameo part, but now we are getting down to more significant characters for me.

I think the next series of Torchwood should be like 1&2

as usual i missed the question.

I think CoE proved that Torchwood works best as event tv. However I'd like to be greedy and ask for two events rather than one!

It's funny actually, cause i wasn't happy about the idea of one story over five episodes initially, but it just worked so well, primarily because it gave them the room to really create strong characters. Series 1 and 2 have some very good characters, don't get me wrong, but they equally suffer from some of the supporting cast to being very thinly painted characters. Look at the results here so far and you see that the supporting cast from series 3 is almost still fully intact. That says something to me.

This is getting way too difficult for my liking!

Wow – my name in lights at long last! I shall enjoy it for as long as it lasts!

My votes for this round are:

Countrycide: Evan Sherman (Owen Teale)
A Day in the Death: Henry Parker (Richard Briers)
Fragments: Alex Hopkins (Julian Lewis Jones)
Rupesa Patanjai (Rik Makarem)

As for this round’s question, I think I would prefer series 4 to be structured as series 1 and 2 were then maybe go for event TV for series 5. That would allow series 4 to build up new characters/team members.

70) Colonal Oduya (Charles Abomeli)

As for the question I agree with Muttley, I would prefer it structured like CoE but to have two of them

Same:

10) Captain John Hart (James Marsters)

23) Adrift: Nikki Bevan (Ruth Jones)

18) Captain Jack Harkness: Captain Jack Harkness ~ The Captain (Matt Rippy)

01) Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman)

I liked the depth we got with the story in CoE and how we got more of a view into the secondary characters. Maybe they could have series 4 be the same length as 1 and 2 but have multiple episodes for the stories - 2 and 3 parters. I would like the storytelling quality of 3 but the length of 1 and 2.

I am not doing very well in this so will pass from now on. Keep up the good work though and I will be interested in the outcome.

Don't give up, Gill, I once went something like six rounds without getting any of my picks elminated!

Still:
Colonal Oduya
A Day in the Death: Henry Parker
Fragments: Emily Holroyd

New:
Anna Frobisher (Hilary Maclean)

Question is another good one RK! I'm with John Barrowman's on this. I think another year with only 5 episodes would be criminal. It has to be a full set, 13 is fine. I like the idea of a season "theme". I think the Captain John / Gray storyline was excellent in a lot of ways, even if it was a bit botched in execution. But I think rather than have say 2 big stories last a week each, it should be a bit more like Who. Some standalone episodes (plenty of them worked beautifully for me, Countrycide, Adrift, Sleeper, To the Last Man) and then a few multi-part stories too. I'd like to see a 3-parter rather than the Who standard of just 1 or 2 part stories, although arguably, both S1 & S2 had a 2-part season end story. In some ways I feel that CoE was stretched out a bit, especially in the first couple of episodes, so it could have been a bit shorter.

I agree with Muttley! Don't give up - whilst there's a competitive edge and some of us get WAAAY too excited at the sight of our "name in lights", the more votes there are the more interesting the game! Besides - I don't think you'd be waiting any longer to change votes than captain-o-phobic syramu!

From last round
17) Out of Time: John Ellis
39) Denise Riley

new
24) Emily Holroyd
25) Alice Guppy

As for the question I have to agree with Muttley

I think the "event" format suited torchwood as it upped the tension and drama, however i too would like 2 of these (or even 3 )

Maybe you could PM your votes instead of on the thread that way no-one else will know how you've voted - apart from RK of course.

I only took part in part of the Classic survivor, ie the prediction part and waited for the top 10 before I started PMing my votes. You might find it easier to vote later on when there's less choice.

Regards
Karen

I don't really know the characters well enough to properly vote but I'll answer the question as long as that's OK?
I think s4 should be event tv- series 3 took Torchwood out of the "silly" genre I'd have placed it in before (with the exception of s2's Exit Wounds) and gave us the darkness I've been longing for in DW. Some fantastic acting- I could really connect with characters and feel the fear they felt. EVENT TV FTW

Missed the last round. Curse work for getting in the way

Round 10:
22) A Day in the Death: Henry Parker (Richard Briers)
24) Fragments: Emily Holroyd (Heather Craney)

New:
25) Fragments: Alice Guppy (Amy Manson)- Nothing against her particularly but she didn't make as much impact as the other characters remaining
26) Fragments: Alex Hopkins (Julian Lewis Jones)- Likewise, though I thought he was the most interesting of the past Torchwood agents

As for the question, there's no denying Children of Earth worked extremely well. The only thing that would worry me is how to follow it- it would be very difficult to keep pulling off stories on that scale, and to make them believable one after another. If it can be done, 'event tv' like that would be great- but I agree with the general sentiment that 5 episodes is not enough, make the 'event' longer (or have a series with one story throughout) or have more than one miniseries.
