Is Yoga dangerous?

I've just had my first yoga session, and it's left me with a raging headache, pains all over and I feel as if I want to be sick.

Now, I'm a pretty fit kind of person - I can do normal circuit training type things for hours if need be, and I can cycle for miles and miles.

Is it the 'purifiying' effect or something? I'm tempted not to bother again

I suppose if you do a very advanced position as a beginner, you might pull a muscle or two.

You could have caught a cold.

Muscle tension?

Being super fit, riding a bike 50 miles every day doesn't mean you've got super-flexi supple muscles all over your body. In fact if anything I'd say being super fit and athletic will just pump them and have generally more adrenaline flowing, making it more difficult to be very flexible at the joints.

No, yoga isn't dangerous at all under expert tuition but it isn't as easy as it may look to a beginner and does use a lot of muscles not used in typical aerobic exercise; if the headachy feeling persists after some hours and drinking some fluids however it may be that you are overly tired from the new forms of exertion and simply need to rest a bit.
