Is there any point to x-factor?

After tonight - fans of the show. What is the point?

Listening to the acts - why? Auditions - why? Live shows with singers, why?

The judges - WHY???

And voting - I won't even ask.

Yes it's Saturday evening entertainment - and Sunday. And probably cheap to make compared to a lot of shows.

And judging by the views on here it can be whatever you want it to be. and it's not necessarily about the same thing every week.

The X-Factor has invalided itself and has no credibility at all now. Simon Cowell might as well get rid of all the contestants left and go on stage and pull flowers out his anus as far as I am concerned. Not that it would be much fun to watch but at least you would be seeing two arse holes for the price of one.

For me its point has always been a 3 month countdown to Christmas and a programme which allows us to vote for the singer of the obligatory X Factor Christmas Number 1.

No more. No less.

Couldnt agree more, its all about BGT now. He is taking X Factor to the States anyway so maybe this is his way of killing the show here in the uk. Good Job Simon, you've done it, no singing competition here anymore.

Ex Simon Cowell Fan

Well said doughnut.

I don't think he can ever again argue it's a singing contest that's for sure - though, knowing him he will probably try to!

This is the first series of X factor that I have watched. I accepted that it was manipulated for dramatic effect and that nothing (nothing!) happened in the show with Simon Cowell's approval or planning. But i think yestrday was when it 'jumped the shark'.

Does Simon Cowell think we are all idiots? That we won't remember that he continually said it was a singing contest. How he moaned about John & Edward. How he said that 'as always' the 'sing off' (there's a clue in the name) would be judged only on the performance (just like the previous week eh Simon?) and then in the judgement started talking about previous performances? Does he think we are stupid enough to think there was any comparison in the singing performances of John & Edward and Lucy? And above all does he think that we believe that he doesn't know the poll results before deciding who to send home?

I cannot bear Simon Cowell. I never could. But I put up with his smug, 'lord of all I survey' attitude and supercilious grin because I enjoyed some of the singing. However, I now realise that I was stupid to believe that there is a shred of integrity or realism in the show. I see that others already understand that but I cannot continue to watch what is clearly only a cynical moneymaking exercise for Simon Cowell and ITV. So I won't watch it again.

Incidentally, can anyone explain the business of the supposed competition between the judges. What possible difference does it make which of the 'mentors' (yeah right) has the winning act?

It kind of fills in time for me while I wait for the next series of American Idol but I'm amazed at how seriously some people take it. Half the fun for me is seeing how the show seeks to manipulate us and resisting Simon Cowell by - not voting and sometimes fastforwarding over his comments

Now I say this with love - but I really think people who think it is actually a search for a credible musical star, with four mentors who give their time to seek out new talent for love not money - that they need to get out more
