What defines RnB?? - Music

I just saw an advert for some album RnB anthems 1999 - 2009
on the ad it played Christina Aguilera Beautiful and Kelly Rowland Work and Gnarls Barkley Crazy.
I wouldn't have thought Any of these were R n B anthems.
I know it stands for Rythmn and Blues but to me they were pop songs.

Can someone tell me what does define RnB these days ?
