Could this be the last series of the X Factor?

Each week this series of X Factor is getting more and more ridiculous. I'm sure it used to be about finding new talent but this series has become a total joke. It just seems to be about generating as much publicity as possible, about Jedward, the judges arguing, Cheryl singing live/miming, bullying between contestants etc etc....

I think the X factor has lost its X factor!!!! Wouldn't surprise me if this was the last series..... Simon's probably bored of it now anyway and wanting to be onto his next venture....??

It won't be the last series. Just because John and Edward are still in it doesn't mean that the show won't find any talent. I still believe that the most talented acts are still left in the competition. I agree with Simon, none of the acts who have gone could have won it.

I've said it before: if Leon Jackson's win couldn't kill it, nothing can.

(You should also consider that more and more people coming out of the XF are doing well in the charts.)

probably not the end but perhaps the beginning of the end. there'll no doubt be a cue of deluded wannabes next year waiting to get up on stage and as long as the show brings in the viewers it will continue

I don't think it will be the last as such, but I don predict that it will evolve, much like Pop Idol evolved into The X-Factor.

Some changes are certainly needed, as General Zod has fatally wounded the format as it stands now.

Contractually I think there are another 2 series to go. I am not certain of the time scale but a contract was signed to deliver more x factor.

It's a gold mine for ITV so they ain't going to drop it. I didn't care for the new style auditions but they are here to stay seemingly.

We all come on here and moan about it etc but and is a guilty pleasure for loads of people but we all watch it year after year. Just look at all the threads from last night's show!

The show is probaly just heading for the slope.

It is very much in "hype" mode at the moment following on from BGT this year. Hence cracking viewing figures but the show is not the same show as last year.

What happens is the show will slowly get more & more preposterous as producers try to better prior series etc.

The talent pool this year isn't as good as last year so I am not convinced too many will emerge out of this with worthwhile careers.

It is a bit of a caricature already but the public will fall out love with it fairly soon hastened by BGT being now pretty much the same product.

After last night, I hope J&E win and it puts the final nail in the coffin of a cash cow for Cowell.

No way. The biggest show on television. Over 13 million viewers is a high achievement nowadays for a programme!

With record ratings, tons of press interest and more money for Cowell - this show isn't going anywhere for a long time.

haha, yes I have to confess you're right! It really is a load of tosh but for some reason it is compulsive viewing and even if it does come back next year, I know we'll all still be watching it....

Following on from some of the other comments, I don't think any of the acts are brilliant to be honest - some are ok but doubt any of them will still have their name in lights in 10 years time.... but I guess it does provide us all with a bit of saturday night entertainment in the meantime :-)

Honestly, what are you thinking?

John and Edward winning the show won't put a nail in anyones coffin except perhaps theirs.

Simon won't care if they win, by the time next years X Factor rolls round, no-one else will care that they won, and we will just start the whole circus all over again.

Anyone with a single brain cell MUST know that the only thing that will bring the X Factor to an end is low viewing figures and nobody buying the winners record or voting. Or possibly Simon Cowell quitting the show.

Don't see that happening anytime soon. SC knows what he is doing, most people in the real world know what he is doing and watch it anyway, and still enjoy it.

Sometimes I wonder, I really do.

X factor circus rolls on

I used to think the x factor was a genuine attempt to find new singing talent in the UK - silly me.
It is now a vehicle for Simon Cowell's huge ego and it seems we are all complicit in it, by voting for these acts.
Why is there a sing off if the judges are going to leave it to the public vote? If that is the case, we can just eliminate the one with the least votes and avoid all this nonsense.
Like her or not, I defy anyone to say Lucie did not sing better than the twins on Sunday. And as Simon constantly keeps saying, isn't this a singing contest?

His integrity is gone forever and who will pay any attention to his rambling comments now? If there is any justice in this game, his acts will now tumble out of the competition - how amusing if one of them is up against the twins - I wonder who Danni will vote for?

But the show has beocme abusive.

It abuses contestants when teenagers are destroyed in front of 13m viewers, by completely arbitrary and wildly inconsistent sentiments from the judges. If it could be proven that there is even an element of manipulation in either the judges comments or their votes after the sing-off the show should be cancelled.

Many viewers are abused if they have been given an expectation that they are watching a fair contest of singing talent, with a progressively higher concentration of excellence with each week that passes.

The public votes are not really a good measure of talent, because a lot of voting is partisan, tactical or voters are just smitten, irregardless of performance. Viewers like me believe that the sing-offs are given to the judges to vote on as a correction.

Instead we are served a corrupt farce, with one judge, Louis, actually admitting he was voting agains a superior act in order to save the act he is mentoring; he is meant to JUDGE for chrissake! Simon Cowell's comments and vote contracted his previous comments, one suspects in order to manipulate the outcome.

I love music, performance and competition on merit. But this is plainly insulting.
