Morrisey hit by bottle at concert

No respect.

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20091108...t-5f8abb3.html

"But during his second song, Black Cloud, the 50-year-old stepped to the front of the stage to shake the hands of fans when a plastic bottle of beer was hurled toward him and struck him in the eye.

The singer stood up and said "goodnight" to the stunned 8,000 strong crowd before walking off stage. His fans then burst into chants of "Morrissey, Morrissey. Morrissey" in an effort to get the performance back on track.

But about five minutes later an announcement was made to a chorus of boos that he had been hit on the head and would not be resuming the concert.

Jay Silker, 27, from Mossley Hill, Liverpool, said: "If there's ever a singer who would not take kindly to a bottle being thrown at him, it's Morrissey."

Iain Kavanagh, 33, from Liverpool, said: "Some people were complaining afterwards because he's been in the game for years and he should be used to it by now.

"But he's a 50-year-old man who has just been ill and he deserves better than that."

I can't understand why someone would spend all that money on a ticket for a concert then just go to throw a bottle at him.

What a complete idiot. The other people at the concert should be angry at him, not Morrissey.

What the hell do they want him to do? Perform when he's in intense pain/feeling utterly weird or light headed? Some people can be utterly selfish.

I agree 100% with Morrissey not continuing the show, he could have been worried for his safety or in pain.

The idiot who threw the missile is most definitely not a fan, and I don't understand why he would pay/go to see an artiste that he'd want to throw bottles at.

Let's hope that the idiot who did this is arrested and charged with assault.

Arr! Where's my 'Morrissey is God' tshirt?!

Probably at the very bottom of a wardrobe, gathering dust balls, but I've kept it for the boy...when he hits puberty I've got a secret weapon...

But seriously, throwing bottles at Morrissey in concert? That's like killing seals or eating meat?

What has the world come to?

My workmate went. He was gutted as it was his Xmas pressie from his brother. Apparently the guy who threw the bottle was apprehended.

If this bottling continues or other problems then he must end the tour. Go back to Rome even if he can't afford to quit.

Try a little experiment.

Get someone who doesn't like you (should be quite easy), and ask them to throw a filled plastic bottle at your eye/head, with force and from a distance.

Then see if you feel like putting on a show and performing a dozen songs in front of thousands of people.

Didn't he once get a packet of sausages chucked at him at the Royal Albert Hall and described it as 'a misguided act of love'?

Those days appear to have well and truly gone.

I think Mozza should definitely have come back on 15 minutes or so later, once the guy who threw the bottle was removed. The shows are supposed to be for the fans, aren't they? He should just pack in touring altogether if he's gonna disappoint the real fans who paid out. He should do a FREE show to compensate.

That sums it up for me. And particularly in the light of his recent hospitalisation.

When I saw The Smiths many moons ago on the Meat Is Murder tour, some guy was throwing sausages at Morrissey.
He just laughed it off.

Mind you, there is a big difference between chucking a sausage for a joke and a bottle of water, specially seeing as he has had health concerns recently as well.

If I was Morrissey, I wouldn't have come back on.

Well I wish he had the bottle to go 'home' wherever that is.

Perhaps landslides / wildfires permitting he can write some songs out of this .

Last night I dreant somebody bottled me.

Reel around the monitor. etc

Read he was a bit of a skiver, he probably paid one of his roadies to lob it at him to get out of doing the show.

He has collapsed on stage recently and has also lost his voice and been unable to sing quite a few times, that is hardly skiving
