Stomach Bug - What to eat?

I have a stomach bug and was vomiting last night and I'm not feeling great today.

I have drank two weak cups of tea which have made me feel a better. I am feeling hungry now but I have no idea what to eat.

I couldn't face anything heavy (soup, potato's, pizza etc), we do have some cream crackers in, would they be ok to eat plain (i.e no butter/jam etc)?

We don't have light cereal (I don't eat it anyway).

Can anyone recommend something light to eat?

Thanks.

Toast, biscuits, crackers are best. No butter etc.

Go for water or clear juice to drink.

Flat pop is also very good. If you need to flatten it add a tsp of sugar.

The crackers will be fine. Just keep up your fluids to get your vitamins in - I don't know how bad your sickness was but if you can get a bit of fruit in such as grapes that'd be great or even scrambled egg (make sure it's done properly though)

Sorry your feeling ill. I wouldnt eat out personaly it could agrivate it more. Try too keep off the tea as well as the milk might upset your stomach again. When my ibs plays up i either eat lightly done toast or rich tea or morning coffee biscuits. If you eat the wrong thing now it might run all the way through you. Also when you start to eat dont over eat and keep up the fluids

When my daughter was small the doctor recommended fizzy drink gone flat. I've used it ever since along with Knorrs packet of powdered chicken noodle soup.

Thanks everyone.

We don't have water (only tap water, but we can't drink it because it is contaminated again!) so my mum will get a bottle in the supermarket tomorrow. We do have 7up, which is currently sitting on the counter going flat, shouldn't be too long more. In the Tea, I only have 1/2 a table-spoonful of Milk in, so not too much.

Re Fruit - are Strawberries ok? They're the only Fruit we have in.

We don't have biscuits so she'll get them tomorrow as well.

Would tinned veg soup be ok? We do have some, and I could make it quite watery, instesd of thick like usual.

Thanks again.

Would scrambled egg not upset the stomach again?

I had a tummy bug some months back.

My mum recommended Tomato juice as the natural salt in it replaces what your body has lost. I felt so much better after sipping a couple of glasses!

It is also a cracking hangover cure!!!

Hope you feel better soon x

Oranges are better.

They taste the same coming up as they do going down.

Mashed banana, grated apple, scrambled eggs, mashed potato (without the cream and butter ), home made chicken soup, porridge.

Sorry you're feeling under the weather OP, and seeing here, lots have different ideas.

Personally, I always stay away from dairy products, and eggs,as well as things like tea and orange juice. All of them make me feel even more ill on their way back up to the surface if you get me.

I'd go for water and any dryish foods, crackers, toast, light liquid type food like the old favourite, Chicken soup.

Hope you feel better soon.

Oddly enough, my mum has just said the same thing to me, so she'll grab me some Tomato juice tomorrow.

Thanks again everyone.

Glad you are feeling better. When my Mum and I had the norovirus about a week apart we both found a chicken stock cube disolved in a big mug of boiling water totally delicious. Again the salts helped replace what we'd lost.

Thanks for the idea.

I've just drank a Chicken cuppa soup (I didn't even know we had any until my mum found it hiding behind the box of rice!) - and although it didn't taste great - it has helped me to feel a little more better.

I'm sweating now though!

Best thing imo is dry rich tea or some digestives or a packet of ready salted crisps eaten slowly of course!!

I wouldn't have a cup a soup or anything like that for a day or two as it may be too much on your stomach, but you know your body more than me !

Avoid dairy as it creates mucus (lovely). Toast (without butter) or plain boiled rice or potatoes is fine.

Best not to eat any dairy products.

I find Arrow Root biscuits very good if you have had a stomach upset.

I feel for you I had a stomach bug for the first time last October and it scared me as I hate being sick as it is I thought it would never end. It was weeks before I felt able to eat normally again as I was paranoid I would be ill again.

Thanks eveyrone.

I made out a list last night and gave it to my mum so she'll get me the stuff.

I feel a lot better today than I did yesterday, but still not 100% and my upper arms and thighs feel tired and slightly shakey, hopefully that'll be gone tomorrow.

I'll let you know how I get on.
