Padding

Hi,

I've got a Samsung V+ box and my shows tend to be a bit random when it comes to padding. I've set 10 mins at front and back but it seems artibrary as to whether this gets added on or not. I fully understand if there's a clash I'll loose bits of a show but things like HIGNFY reord for 30 mins regardless. And I've set the padding level long before a series link. Any ideas as I'm rec'ing Dr Who on Sunday and if I miss the beginnign or end I'll be V+ annoyed !

Hi,

As I understand it the padding will be removed from all programmes where there is a clash even if it is only the padding that causes the clash. For instance, if you have two programmes set to record from 8.00 - 9.00 and one programme set to record from 9.05 - 10.00, then the padding on the first two will overlap the padding on the later programme. Sky+ sorts this out and only removes the padding that it needs to to avoid the clash. With V+ though, the padding will be removed form ALL three programmes at both the beginning and the end. So perhaps you do have a 'clash' of this sort?

Also, I think that I have found that when there is such a clash, then even if you cancel one of the programmes it doesn't seem to re-set the padding - once it has decided there is a clash you can't change it's mind! The only way to do this is once you have deleted one programme you have to delete the others & re-set them. Like you, I've be foxed by apparent 'non-clashes' but I think this has been the answer in my case. At least with Dr Who it'll be on iPlayer I presume!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm a recent convert to Virgin from S*Y and I love it but I didn't have this sort of problem with their box. I guess I just have to make extra certain I'm careful with recordings that are very important !

Where you do have a 'padding clash' that will end up removing all the padding, you can of course set up manual recordings & add as much overrun as you like (so long as you don't enter any times that would cause a real 3 way clash).

The only trouble is that you won't get any titles showing in your planner so you have to remember what the recording is. I do this occasionally, particularly for sporting events which might overrun longer the maximum padding that you can add.
