How do you activate a brand new white fsfs card not a replament card for the blue card but a brand new ordered white one do have to do a call back does that work on fsfs cards or do you have to call them up? or do they already come active?.

Do a callback, easiest and fastest way - you can do a voice call, but a callback is instant, voice takes perhaps 24 hours (not the usual 4 hours for subscription cards).

Callback doesn't usually work for new FSFS cards. I've done about a dozen so far, and of those just three have worked by callback. They were for the same address and were replacements where the originals never arrived. Go figure!

They can be a right pain to activate, as the FSFS numbers often answer with "This service is no longer available"

I'd better add that there's nothing wrong with my callback system - I never have a problem with subscription cards (either by callback or voice call).

I had to get a new white fsfs card to replace my old BBC/Ch4 one. I telephoned and it all switched on while I was talking on the 'phone - clearly the operator was able to do it instantly.

I have a new white FSFS card coming here ( home) for a non sub HD box at my weekend place and its not connected to a phone line

Can I insert the card into a sub box here (home) and do a callback on a sub box here then take the white activated card with me and simply insert it in the HD box over there

Any draw backs ?

or am I better taking along a phone extension and hook up the HD box there ?

If you can get it to activate by callback, that should be fine. Whilst a card can only be married to one box, a box can have several cards married to it without affecting the others.

Be aware that some third party channels (such as Racing UK) which can be added to a FSFS card will only work in the right box. I speak from experience!

My advice is that if you can pair it to the box it's going to used in, it's best to do so.

If you've got the capability it just makes it so much easier, if not you have the more difficult (and longer) voice call method.
