Anyone think Simon wants a good winner every 2 years?

Leona and Alex look to be the only acts that the show gices a shit about now. What with Alex dueting with Neyo etc and Leona still getting good promotion. I personally think Simon wants the winner to flop this year. No way will Olly, Jamie or Danyl be comercially successful for a long period of time without writing their own music. Danyl is generally quite unpopular with many. Jamie is just a glorified pub singer and Olly will have 1 hit at Xmas and be forgotten by Series 7. Saying that, I cant see Joe or Lloyd setting the charts alight either.

I just have a theory that now he wants a good winner every 2 years so to give that winner a chance to establish themselves amongst the public.

I think Syco could use a decent X Factor winner for this time next year. Leona might be off on tour, Alexandra will pretty much have exhausted her album. Shayne is releasing at the start of the year so there won't be any new releases from X Factor this time next year.

This years lot aren't the strongest bunch, though. I wouldn't be surprised to see them go back to the old release strategy and put something out around May/June (maybe with BGT appearance). At the very least, I think we'll see a single then to keep them in the public eye.

No, I think he wants a good winner every year. It's just that the viewers don't always agree with his idea of a good winner.

I can see what you're saying, I think.
But obviously the person wins because the public LIKES them so therefore he has a good winner every year ;D
maybe apart from Steve's year.. haha (:

I agree - the standard seems to slip every other year. Leon Jackson's year was rubbish & that gave Leona the chance to flourish before Alex starts establishing herself.

There is not one person on the show this year that IMO gives a stand out performance, where as last year there were quite a few.

Lets not be naive enough to think it is a total public decision either. The judges decide on the final two and I wouldn't be surprised if they know the actual figures before it goes live to the public. It is Simon Cowell's show after all....he can do what he likes, as long as they're not rigging phone votes.

Don't JLS count?

I don't think that Simon wants the same category to win two years in a row because it potentially sets up competition. Which is why I think Stacey's chances are slim, even though she's sweet. It's going to be Joe or one of the Overs.

I reckon Simon could do with a great winner this year if he's pitching this show in the US. Surely he'll want to show how good the show actually is rather than have a silly act win. I don't think John and Edward will win - I expect they'll be in the bottom two this week and it will likely be goodbye (unless they are up against Lloyd.)

I think there's a very good chance you're right.

At the moment look at the charts: Cheryl, Alex, JLS... the market gets a bit saturated by reality show acts.

By almost alternating, it does keep focus on the important acts. Doesn't mean he wants a failure, but I do wonder if a "less overshadowing success" is preferable.

They do seem to have a bit of a duff series every other year don't they? I suppose I can kind of understand by Simon insists on praising Danyl to the hilt - he was the "Youtube star" and got attention in the US months ago so he sees they already have an opening there. The problem is, however, Danyl just doesn't seem to gel with the public that well and has been in the bottom 2 - has there ever been a winner who ended up there at some point?

Then there was Jedward - who had all this media attention and everyone was talking about them. There was even rumours the other week that they got the highest percentage of the votes, with conspiracies stating that placing them last to sing in the show means they'd get more votes.... yet they still ended up in the bottom 2 on Sunday.

Jedward and Danyl are the most talked about contestants this year and they have both been in the bottom 2 - which just goes to show that we have no idea what goes on with the voting and it's still a mystery as to who will win this thing.

That said, I can't see Simon and his team putting so much effort into any of the other's album if it isn't Danyl. Can you imagine Jedward, or Stacey, or Lloyd or Joe getting the Alex/Leona treatment - whisked off to America, recording with big-name producers and then releasing it to much hype about 10 months later?

Good point - he needs someone he can turn into something big in order to up the cost of the advertising space.

Tsk. Trying to collapse my huge-act-even-if-they-only-came-second argument SIMPLY because winners are the subject of the thread.

You'll get two of these now ----->

He's got Leona as a track record and Alex is being promoted now but to really grab the media attention in the US, he needs someone who is at least competent. Thus, I don't think he'd be happy with the twins winning but at the moment X Factor is getting more viewing figures than most years because of the controversy they are creating. He'd be a fool to let them out of the competition right now, especially as X Factor is beating Strictly quite soundly at the moment.

TV show bosses aren't bothered about how good the acts are, its the ratings what count and john and edward have added a mill or 2 to the figures. You cant get acts like them on american idol. The more people that hate them just adds more interest to the show.
